Bundi district of Rajasthan is an example of Ganga-Jamuni culture. Bundi district is also called Chhoti Kashi. Bundi was named Chhoti Kashi because there were temples and mosques at every step. The history of religious places is very old. Crowds of devotees gather throughout the year. Tourists also do not go without visiting religious places. The major temples are Rameshwar Mahadev, Bhimalat Mahadev, Rao Bhav Singh Temple, Charbhuja Nath, Chauth Mata, Bijasan Mata. The Dargah on the Aravalli mountain range in Bundi is famous by the name of Baba Meera Saheb Badi Dargah. There is a mosque, gurudwara and temple at one place near the bypass road in the city. Madina Mosque, Guru Granth Sahib Gurudwara, Lord Devnarayan of Gurjar community, Matsya Mandir of Meena community i.e. the temple of Pisces God.
Natural place Rameshwar Mahadev
Bundi district is famous throughout Rajasthan by the name Rameshwar. Rameshwar Mahadev Temple is situated on a hill in Akoda village, 17 kilometers from the city. The temple is built naturally. A huge waterfall emerges near the temple. The temple of Rameshwar Mahadev is built in the form of a cave on the hill. Mahadev is present in a small cave. The special thing about the Shivling of Rameshwar Mahadev is that it is descended from the rocks and the Shivling never remains dry. Water keeps falling from the mountains on Shivling and Abhishekam keeps happening. Bholenath is seen after climbing 108 steps of Rameshwar Mahadev Temple. Amidst the lush green valleys, the structure of the Aravalli mountain range seems to be adorning the statue of Bholenath itself. Devotees seek the blessings of the Mother Goddess by touching the breast of the natural cow in the shell of the hill.
Bhimlat Mahadev, Natural Waterfall
Bhimalat Mahadev Temple established in the grandeur and natural beauty of nature is the attraction of Bundi district. It is said that five Pandavas came here during their exile. Nature consecrates Mahadev in the pagoda built at this site. Jalabhishek of Mahadev is done with the water that comes out of the mountain every twelve months. There is a huge crowd of tourists during monsoon. The height of the waterfall is 150 feet and the vastness of the area is 6 km is astonishing. It is said that there is a unique story behind Bhimlat Mahadev and the waterfall. Bhimalat means kicking by Bhima. On the basis of beliefs, it is believed that in ancient times, Bhima had come out from here with his army. Then he kicked his foot which created a huge crater. In which a huge waterfall falls today.
Rao Raja Bhav Singh, God of Justice
The history of Bundi is not only in its emotional beauty, nature, architecture, paintings and literature, but its rulers also made their place in love for justice. That’s why they started being worshiped like God. We are talking about Rao Raja Rao Bhav Singh. From 1658 to 1681, he was very popular due to his kind and public welfare sentiments. After his death, a temple was built in the old Kotwali premises. According to history, Rao Bhav Singh is considered as the god of justice. He did not allow injustice to anyone during his tenure. The special thing is that Bundi Police also considers Rao Bhav Singh as the god of justice. Even today, he is worshiped in many police stations of the district and when any major crime is committed, the policemen go to the temple and wish to solve it soon.
Kings used to come to Charbhuja Nath temple
Charbhuja Nath Temple is located at Tilak Chowk of the city. Purushottam Pareek, associated with the temple committee, said that the temple was constructed by the local rulers. The king himself used to come to Charbhuja Nath temple to perform Mangala Aarti. Before the arrival of the king, the entire path of the temple was washed with sandalwood water. After Mangala Aarti, the king used to distribute laddus to the devotees. A large number of devotees visit the temple every year during the Phag festival.
There is a huge temple of Chauth Mata on the hill located on Banganga Road. Every year on Til Chauth, lakhs of devotees come to have darshan of Mata. President of Chauth Mata Temple, Gopal Gurjar told that many years ago the Raja of Bundi had brought a replica of Chauth Mata from Barwada in Sawai Madhopur. By building a temple of Mata on the hill of Banganga, the rulers of Bundi considered her as the clan goddess. Since then, many miracles of Chauth Mata are being claimed to have been seen and every year thousands of devotees come to visit Mata’s fair.
Bijasan Mata Temple is a major religious place located in Indargarh of the district. If history is to be believed, the temple was built by Indrasal, younger brother of ruler Rao Shatrusal, in his own name. Bijasan Mata Temple is situated on a huge hill in Indargarh. It has its own distinct religious significance. The temple is considered sacred. Devotees come from far and wide to fulfill their wishes. Devotees pray for the birth of a son and for newly married couples to make their married life happy and prosperous. Bijasan Mata Temple is situated on the top of the hill. Therefore devotees have to climb 700 to 800 stairs to reach the temple.
First Dargah of Rajasthan
The city has the Dargah of Hazrat Meera Chahaltan (Baba Meera Saheb) situated on the Aravalli mountain range. Meera Chahaltan is also known as Meera Saheb. There are two ways to reach the Dargah – on foot and by vehicle. Experts say that this is the first Dargah of Rajasthan situated on a hill in the middle of greenery. Many buildings and tombs in the Dargah are built centuries ago. About 45 small tombs in the Dargah of Baba Meera Saheb are no less than charismatic.
