Introduction to Optimalism Part 2: What is Optimalism

What Is Optimalism…

Optimalism is the combined meaning of the following words:

Optimum

Best; most likely to bring success or advantage.

The quality of being full of hope & emphasising the good parts of a situation, or a belief that something good will happen.

Optimise

To make something as good as possible.

Optimist

Someone who always believes that good things will happen.

Optimal

Best or most favourable.

‘What Optimalism Means To Me…

A set of principles to live by that produce an optimal state of being. Follow these principles & you gain access to an optimal life’

Further Developments…

To be optimistic is when one expects the best possible outcome from any given situation.

To remain optimistic in life is a skill that can be practiced, honed & mastered.

This is certainly a vital skill & studies have proven that those who remain optimistic are less susceptible to illness & disease.

Research has emerged showing the relationships between several psychological constructs & health. Optimism is one of these concepts, & has been shown to explain between 5–10% of the variation in the likelihood of developing some health conditions, notably including cardiovascular disease, stroke, & depression.

Optimism

Laura Kubzansky Ph.D., M.P.H. is Associate Professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences & Director of the Society and Health Psychophysiology Laboratory, is at the forefront of such research.

In a 2007 study that followed more than 6,000 men & women aged 25 to 74 for 20 years, for example, she found that emotional vitality— a sense of enthusiasm, of hopefulness, of engagement in life, & the ability to face life’s stresses with emotional balance—appears to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.

The protective effect was distinct & measurable, even when taking into account such wholesome behaviours as not smoking & regular exercise.

Among dozens of published papers, Kubzansky has shown that children who are able to stay focused on a task & have a more positive outlook at age 7, report better general health & fewer illnesses 30 years later.

She has found that optimism cuts the risk of coronary heart disease by half.

Philosophy…

This is one example of a Principle that can dramatically affect your life.

Remaining Optimistic or holding an optimistic outlook. So many do not take advantage of this simple approach. This is where my philosophy of Optimalism comes to the forefront.

To go one step further, William Godwin, English journalist, political philosopher & novelist hoped that society would eventually reach the state where calm reason would replace all violence & force, that mind could eventually make matter subservient to it, & that intelligence could discover the secret of immortality.

Maybe this is optimism at its highest point?
But how do you propose the human race could reach for this godly state?

I suggest a higher state of experience can be achieved through diligent practice of specific principles that enhance a person’s well-being.

There is little argument that specific movements build the strength & size of the correlating / working muscles.

I suggest that specific principles could also be applied to build a person’s mental & emotional well-being.

The combined set of principles could then bring about a quantum leap of a person’s level of health & fitness. Profoundly affecting one’s life for the better.

Elusive Info…

The specific practices required to grow in the above mentioned areas appear to be elusive to the average individual. Only those at the top of their game appear to be in possession of such priceless information.

For instance Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, a baseball pro, an entrepreneur, celebrity, clothing range owner, collaborator with Nike, retired & made a successful comeback twice!

Both times breaking records for games & points scored. Not to mention breaking TV viewing records at the point of return from his first retirement. Olympic athlete & gold medalist, businessperson & actor. The first NBA star to become a billionaire.

Even if you know very little about Michael Jordan you will have heard his name & you certainly know this, he is a success. He certainly lives through the principles that bring success.
Michael possessed talent but he also applied himself in a very spe- cific way that enabled his talent to experience its full potential. He lives by principles throughout his life that offer him the greatest chance of success in everything he does.
Become Infinitely Stronger & Unstoppable…
Ghandi is an example from another end of the spectrum. He held high principles in relation to human existence. He believed in freedom & equality for everyone.

Gandhi led India to independence & inspired movements for civil rights & freedom across the world. He did this through non-violent demonstrations & holding an unbreakable set of principles.

The power is already inherent within the principle. Once a person aligns their thoughts, words & actions with a principle they become infinitely stronger. When a group forges this bond they become unstoppable.

Ghandi organically grew a peaceful-army from a nation, based on principle. The power of the principle (which can be accessed by anyone) is held within the principle.

It gives a person purpose & once aligned with the requirement of the principle, some of the decisions a person will be required to make from day-to-day will automatically be answered by what the principle dictates.

Your Body Is A Temple…
Religion provides a moral code to live by. Optimalism that I speak of here, provides a life code.

Just like when a religious person makes regular visits to their place of worship, you will grow a practice of regular visits to yours… knowing that your body is in fact a temple!

As you live these principles day-in, day-out, your power will grow. I propose that the highest principles that you can live by in this day & age are those that which lead you to optimal health & fitness.

This is not to say that you should immediately become a narcissistic, self-obsessed, egomaniac!

But on the contrary become more aware of everything & everyone around you & how you can help them or the situation & yourself.
At Any Moment…
If at any moment in your life you are too ill to care for another in time of need, or not in a place financially to help another in time of need, or not confident enough in the aesthetics of your body to boost another’s self-esteem – then I suggest that you are not in an optimal state.

That is why I invite you to practice ‘Optimalism’ in your life…
You may not apply all of the principles simultaneously but they provide you with a foundation to base your thoughts, words & actions around – in order to reach & remain in optimal state.

When you are in an optimal state of being you are at your personal best.

When you are in an optimal state of being you are a power to be reckoned with.

When you are in an optimal state of being you are able to give & keep giving of yourself.

When you are in an optimal state of being you can be of the most service to yourself & others…

Now I ask you what is more religious than that?

Welcome to a new type of religion, welcome to Optimalism.
