Stunning 4* hotel opens with great fanfare in the ‘art’ of Manchester

The beautiful £45m four-star Hotel, which is owned by Dalata, Ireland’s largest hotel group, proudly rolled out the red carpet today as it opened its doors, bringing over 87 new jobs in the heart of the city. It provides a vibrant new offering for visitors to Manchester, as well as a stunning staycation destination for locals who can indulge in some delicious food and drink.

The 18-storey Clayton Hotel Manchester City Centre is located on Portland Street, just a five-minute walk from Piccadilly Gardens and an eight-minute walk from Piccadilly train station, which opens up the whole North-West region for guests.

This prime location means hotel guests have easy access to Manchester’s iconic bars, restaurants, art galleries and museums. For football fans, Old Trafford is just 15 minutes away while the Etihad Stadium is a 10-minute drive.

To mark the official opening, Clayton Hotel Manchester City Centre commissioned Russ Meehan, aka Qubek, one of Manchester’s best-known street artists to paint a unique piece of art depicting the new hotel, bringing to life some of the city’s most renowned landmarks and the iconic Manchester Bee.

Russ often works with Manchester City Council to ensure that suitable spaces across the city are used for thought-provoking and stunning street art.

As the hotel officially opened today, guests and visitors were treated to a drinks and canapes reception while listening to talented musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music.

The hotel, which features spacious rooms, beautiful modern interiors with a mezzanine overlooking the bustling bar area and a stunning feature staircase, is also set to become a foodie destination thanks to its excellent restaurant, No. 55 Restaurant & Bar.

Executive Head Chef, Nathaniel Farrell has assembled an exciting team who are all passionate about championing local produce to create mouth-watering British cuisine.

Clayton Hotel Manchester City Centre General Manager, Filiz Smith said the official opening is the culmination of months of hard work and preparation, but everyone connected with the hotel is excited to be rolling out the red carpet for guests.

Filiz said: “What better way for the Clayton Hotel Manchester City Centre to be introduced to the city than to appear in a piece of street art by Qubek. I love seeing the hotel stand alongside other famous landmarks and of course the Manchester Bee and all that it symbolises for the city.

“We have a fantastic team in place who are passionate about offering wonderful local hospitality for our guests. As the artwork shows, we are ready to take our place in this city and region and add to the already amazing attractions Manchester has to offer.

“I have called Manchester home for over a decade, and I love the ‘buzz’ of this city. It has some incredible restaurants, shops, theatres and museums along with a number of other top attractions and I am looking forward to sharing ‘my’ city with our guests.

“Having worked at our sister hotel, Clayton Hotel Manchester Airport, I know the Clayton Hotels brand of hospitality is popular and the whole team at Clayton Hotel Manchester City Centre is excited about bringing that superior guest service in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.”

Sheona Southern, Managing Director at Marketing Manchester also commented on the new offering to the city: “The opening of this brand-new 329 bedroom hotel presents a significant mark of confidence in the strength of the visitor economy in Greater Manchester and specifically Manchester city centre, as well as an important level of investment along the Portland Street corridor.

“I wish the team every success with their opening and we at Marketing Manchester look forward to working in partnership to promote the hotel as both a leisure and business tourism destination.”

The new hotel is Dalata Group’s second hotel in the area alongside Clayton Hotel Manchester Airport. Next month Dalata, which also owns Maldron Hotels, will open the Maldron Hotel Manchester City Centre just a short distance from the Clayton Hotel.

The hotel provides comfortable air-conditioned rooms, a fitness centre, restaurant and a bar, a 24-hour front desk and room service, along with free WiFi throughout.

Clayton Hotel Manchester City Centre also holds the ‘We’re Good to Go’ industry standard, demonstrating a commitment to comply with all Covid-19 safety guidelines.
