What Will You Learn in Our Esthetics Program?

Are you always working to perfect your look with the latest makeup trends and Skincare products? If you are a skincare fanatic who’s always eager to learn about new products, trends, and tools, you may be a perfect fit for esthetician school. By attending an Esthetics Program like the one offered at The Studio Academy of Beauty’s Phoenix, Chandler, and Tolleson campuses, you are taking the first step towards an exciting career in the beauty industry. Estheticians help their clients feel their best by implementing a variety of skincare treatments and recommending the right products for different skin types and conditions.

What Is Esthetics?

Before we dive into the curriculum that’s included in our Esthetics Program, it’s important to understand more about the field of esthetics. Estheticians focus on skincare, which can include spa treatments like facials, makeup application, waxing, chemical peels, and more. Almost every state in the U.S. requires professional licensure for estheticians following an academic program at an accredited beauty school. Esthetics is a growing field. With a growing aging population along with increased pressure to always look camera-ready thanks to social media, more people are seeking beauty care services that can help them look and feel great.
If you think our Esthetics Program is a good fit for your career goals, continue reading to explore what you can learn as a student at The Studio Academy of Beauty.

Program Curriculum

Our Esthetics Program includes classroom lessons, hands-on practice, and supervised practice offering services to real clients in our student salon. In addition to learning practical skills, you’ll discover the science of skincare so you can identify which services will benefit your future clients and know how to perform those services safely.

Makeup Application

People may seek professional makeup application from an esthetician for big events like weddings and photo shoots. Estheticians may also work in more specialized environments applying stage makeup for theater performances or runway shows. In our Esthetics Program, you’ll have an opportunity to explore your creativity designing different everyday, fantasy, special occasion, and editorial looks using high-end Kryolan Makeup products.

Facials and Other Spa Skincare Services

Spa facials are among the most popular services that estheticians offer. Facials are highly customized to each client and include several steps, such as cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing the skin with professional grade skincare products. To properly perform a facial, estheticians must know how to assess a client’s skin, select the right products for their needs, and address common skin concerns like acne or signs of aging. Along with a variety of facials, you may also learn about chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and other popular spa skincare services.

Face and Body Waxing

While estheticians do not cut and style hair like cosmetologists do, they may provide some hair removal services with face and body waxing. Professional waxing removes hair at the root to provide longer-lasting results than shaving while helping thin hair growth over time. Waxing may be used almost anywhere on the face and body, but some of the most popular treatment areas include the legs, underarms, bikini line, eyebrows, and upper lip. With any waxing service, it is essential to understand how to apply wax safely and accurately to avoid skin irritation and burns. Estheticians must also perfect their wax removal technique to minimize pain and remove as much hair as possible in one swipe of a treated area.

Massaging Techniques

Part of your esthetics education will include massage techniques for the face, hands, and scalp. Massage can stimulate lymphatic drainage, increase blood flow, and bring out the natural glow of the skin, so this is an essential technique for any aspiring esthetician.

Cleanliness and Client Safety

To become licensed as an esthetician by the Arizona Board of Cosmetology, you must demonstrate a knowledge of safety and cleanliness for skincare services. Proper sanitation of your workspace and tools along with safe application of different skincare treatments is a must for client safety. Our Esthetics Program covers the basics of maintaining a clean and safe environment in your workspace. That includes reviewing the chemistry of different skincare products.

Product Knowledge

One potential revenue stream for estheticians is commissions from product sales. Therefore, you will want to have in-depth knowledge of different skincare products. Even if you are not directly selling products at the salon or spa where you work, you will want to be able to recommend the right skincare routine for each of your clients.

Anatomy and Physiology

Esthetics blends the worlds of science and beauty. To understand various skincare treatments, it’s important to know how the skin works. Additionally, you’ll want to have knowledge of different facial structures and facial anatomy, so you can bring out each client’s best features with the right makeup, brow shape, or eyelash tint.

At The Studio Academy of Beauty, we are proud to offer an immersive Esthetics Program that includes a dynamic curriculum delivered by seasoned instructors who care about our students’ success. Schedule a tour of our Phoenix, Chandler, or Tolleson campus today to get on the path toward your future as an esthetician.
