Essential Information for Amsterdam Hotel Guests over the Christmas and New Year Period

The team here at the Amsterdam Hotel are thrilled that so many of you have chosen to come and stay with us over Christmas and New Year 2015. Whether you’re here to celebrate the holiday in the kind of beautiful surrounding that only London can provide, or to simply escape the hectic pace of life that comes with Christmas week, you’ll be enjoying all the usual levels of calm, comfort and luxury that we provide right the year round.

As part of our commitment to ensuring you can make the very most of your time with us, we’ve put together this helpful guide to some of the most important things you should know when staying with us from December 24th through to New Year’s Day.

Travelling on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Wherever you’re going over Christmas, make sure you plan your journey in advance, especially when it comes to making it back to the hotel.

The London Underground network and other public transport systems begin to close from early evening on New Year’s Eve, and won’t be open again until boxing day, when a reduced service is in operation.

Fortunately, the District Line will continue running to Earls’ Court station until 11.50pm on Christmas Eve, though again, there’s a limited service, so please plan ahead.

Taxis

Taxi firms will be operating on Christmas Day, though they will charge a higher fee than usual. To ensure your safety, ask your Amsterdam Hotel reception staff to book a taxi for you.

Openings on Christmas Day

Retail stores, tourist attractions, banks and pharmacies are closed on Christmas Day and some won’t be open again until December 27th. If you have something special in mind, it’s worth phoning or checking online to check for opening hours.

Several bars in Earls Court will be open for just a few hours on Christmas Eve. Again, please call in advance. Restaurants will be open but usually only for pre-booked reservations.

Travelling on New Year’s Eve

Public transport, including the London Underground will be running, although the tube may be running a reduced service.

Local bus networks will be taking diversions and alternative routes, as many of London’s roads close from 2pm onwards to accommodate for the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

New Year’s Eve Openings

In most cases, retail outlets, banks and tourist attractions are open as normal, though it’s always worth calling to check in advance.

You’ll find that New Year’s Eve celebrations are ticketed throughout London, including the televised celebrations on London’s Southbank.

Your Amsterdam Hotel service

To ensure your comfort and enjoyment, our services will continue to run as normal throughout the Christmas and New Year period.

If you have any other questions, please contact us on 020 7370 5084

From all of us at the Amsterdam Hotel, have a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and thank you for choosing to spend the holiday season with us.
