Camden Town is one of the coolest areas in the city but there is more to Camden than just trendy bars and independent stores. Whatever walk of life you are from, you will find plenty to explore and to keep you occupied in the popular borough of Camden.
Shopping
Although there are lots of independent shops to be found in Camden, if you like shopping then the real draw has to be Camden Market. The market is open daily from 9.30am until 6pm and there are around 200 stalls to wander around selling everything from jewellery to alternative fashion. Camden Market is actually best explored in segments and there are six distinctive markets: Camden Stables, Camden Lock, Camden Lock Village, Camden Buck Street, Main Streets and Inverness Street. Each area has a different atmosphere and is surrounded by other independent shops which are also worth popping into.
Food and Drink
There are lots of great venues in Camden which are perfect for some light refreshment during the day or for a night out as well. The pubs here are particularly worth mentioning especially the likes of The Lock Tavern, the Elephant’s Head and the Devonshire Arms which all have reputations as being great spots to kick back with the locals, perhaps meet some new people or simply soak up the vibe. Camden has great transport links too so even if you’ve been on a night out and are staying at the London City Suites By Montcalm you should find it easy to get back to your hotel via tube or bus.
Music
One of the things which put Camden on the map is the great variety of live music venues and gigs which regularly take place here. Some of music’s biggest names have launched themselves in Camden including Amy Winehouse, Madness and Blur and the area is still very much the place to go if you want to discover up and coming bands. Venues such as The Jazz Café, The Roundhouse and Dingwalls are good places to start and again, it will be easy to return to your Montcalm hotel after a night out.
Leisure Time
No visit to Camden would be complete without spending some time walking along Regent’s Canal which winds its way through the heart of Camden. From Camden Lock you can follow the canal to Little Venice, a lovely picturesque pocket in the city which has sprung up where Regent’s Canal meets the Grand Union Canal. There are lots of lovely waterside restaurants located here. Camden is also home to Regent’s Park and the ZSL London Zoo which is situated inside the park; both are perfect options for families or those who love animals. The park itself has plenty to keep everyone occupied from sports facilities to memorials and fountains. Climb to the top of Primrose Hill and you will be treated with a pretty great view of London as well. ZSL London Zoo is home to over 800 different species of animals making it one of the largest collections in the UK.
