We decided to take a little babymoon at the beginning of September and after a bit of research Port de Soller in Mallorca seemed the best place to go when you’re six months preggo and starting to waddle. I ended up getting sick while I was there, with little to no energy and it was the best place to do absolutely nothing!

Port de Soller

Hotel

Bikini Island and Mountain Hotel

We booked our holiday in August so a lot of hotels were already booked out, the ones that remained looked pretty standard except for Bikini Island (although the rooms looked quite small). We decided to book a suite which had a large bedroom, sitting room and essentially two bathrooms along with a balcony over looking the pool. All the standard rooms seem to have a balcony overlooking the port, but again we think they were very small. The hotel is part of the 25Hours chain, and it has a partnership with Mercedes where you can take one of their Mercs free to drive around (they were huge and the roads were super narrow and windy!). The hotel and pool area was absolutely stunning – it was one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at and will certainly be back!

Transport – We rented a car in the airport as our hotel was a 45 min drive from Palma. Car rental is the way to go, the number of car rental options (and queues) was crazy! We rented with Record as there was a deal to add a second driver for free, but I ended up not driving during our trip (the roads in Port de Soller were super narrow, and driving near our hotel would have been stressful). It appears that the majority of tourists rent a car, given how hectic the place was. We rarely used our car in the end, but we went for a drive through the mountains one day and to a beach the next – without the car it wouldn’t have been really possible. If we had a bit longer, we would have driven around the island more.

Restaurants

Neni – This was the restaurant in our hotel (top floor of the image above) and we ate here twice during our stay. The food was exceptional and seems to be the same in all the 25Hours hotels, with an Israel theme to it. On the first night I got essentially Israeli fajita’s and the second time I got a steak, that was up there with the best steak I’ve ever had! Would highly recommend for anyone visiting a city with one of these restaurants to check it out!

Villa Luisa – We had dinner one evening sitting outside watching the sunset across the port and it was lovely! I was a little sick, so didn’t really have much of an appetite but the restaurant was in a beautiful old building overlooking the port. Sean had a margarita that appeared to be swimming in tequila (always a good sign!).

Villa Luisa

We went to two other restaurants, both serving pizza, one I didn’t particularly like and looking up reviews of it now (Domenico) I can see why. The second, I can’t remember the name but it was a very tiny little pizza place run by a french family (just where the tram turns away from the port and heads towards Soller). The pizza here was lovely, as its the only thing they serve!

Minibar – This was a very small little terraced bar overlooking the port. We visited it twice as it was essentially half way along the port. I got their homemade lemonade which was pretty much 6 lemons squeezed into a glass (genuinely think they forgot to add the sparkling water to it). It was really nice to sit up here in the evenings and watch out over the port.

Beach House – On our walk along the port one night, I stopped off here for an Ice Cream. Its a very cute little shop and the ice cream was delicious!

Things To Do

Soller Tram – There is a beautiful old tram that runs along the port and goes to the little town of Soller about 4km away. We decided to take this one afternoon and get some lunch in Soller, its 7euro each, each way and brings you through the countryside to the very cute village. We spent an hour walking through the streets before getting it back to the port. There is also an old train that runs from Soller to Palma that takes about 1hour each way, but we decided not to go for it.

Drive through Tramuntana mountains – The mountains are super dramatic and are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we drove from Soller down to Valldemossa and saw some of the beautiful mountain towns such as Deia, perched high above sea level. We walked through Valldemossa which was a beautiful old town and stopped off for some coffee on one of the squares.

Beach – We wanted to find a beach, but staying on the west side of the island makes that a little difficult. There are plenty of coves with little beaches, but I was in no state to walk down a hill to get to them (we also wanted a beach that wasn’t surrounded by a port). We debated driving up to the north coast but instead settled on Portals Nous, about a 40 mins drive from Soller. It was very very different than Port de Soller and much more what you would expect from a town on a tourist island, with lots of English relaxed after a heavy night of drinking. We got a couple of sun-beds, went for a swim and chilled out for 2 hours before heading back to the hotel.
