Following the reopening of its borders, Thailand has seen a steady increase in tourists including at such popular island destinations as Koh Samui in the province of Surat Thani. The provincial governor of Surat Thani, Wichawut Jinto, has stated that with the boost in arrivals as well as flights, tourism on the island has reached levels witnessed in 2019 before the outbreak of the global pandemic; this was brought to light on the Bangkok Post news website on 24th August 2023 which further revealed that in July, Koh Samui Airport had recorded a total of 2,268 flights bringing in vast numbers of travellers.

This upward trend continued in August which also led to the President of the Tourism Association of Koh Samui, Ratchaporn Poonsawat, requesting airlines to increase daily flights; apart from meeting increased demand, this request was also made to avoid cancellations by those who had made advance hotel reservations but were not able to travel due to limited flights to Koh Samui. Hotels and luxury resorts by the beach such as Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort continue to be a popular choice for tourists as the island prepares to welcome more visitors in the months to come.
