At Cyrusone, we like success stories. Last year, we profiled Chris Martin’s internship, which included working at one of our data centers in northern Virginia. Recently, that experience transpired into a job with JLL, and he is on their account team serving CyrusOne.
A student at Northern Virginia Community College’s Loudoun Campus (NOVA), Chris is still completing coursework and is enrolled in the school’s Data Center Operations program. The program prepares students for entry-level positions in data centers or companies that support data center functions as technicians, operators, and/or technologists.
“The internship is a great experience that allows you to work with several different companies. I gained valuable experience, which led to a great job opportunity with JLL that allows me to work while continuing to move forward with my education,” said Chris. “I’m taking two classes now, another class in the fall, then I’m done.”
As part of the program, Chris took advantage of the Association for Computer Operations Management’s (AFCOM) data center internship program last summer, which offered him the opportunity to work with CyrusOne on the operations team and included an important audit project as well as experiences with another data company and an electrical company.
As we have discussed in a recent blog post and on a CyrusOne Connects podcast, the global data center industry faces an ever-widening skills gap while customer demand for its services only grows.
