Top agencies in the UK

Stone Junction has been spotlighted as an agency to watch, following the release of PRWeek's UK Top 150 Consultancies 2018. The agency continued to show impressive growth in a sector that has otherwise experienced largely slow growth according to analysis by PRWeek.

By Zafar Jamati, senior content executive at Stone Junction

As a whole, the aggregate revenue earned by the UK Top 150 in 2017 was £1.26bn, up 8.1 per cent on 2016. Although this was the slowest growth recorded by the Top 150 since the recession in 2009, Stone Junction bucked this trend with revenue growth of 68 per cent in 2017.

According to big players such as Edelman, the market faces challenges in the form of "oversupply" in the PR industry, a trend that is eroding fees, and economic uncertainty — perhaps due to the ongoing process of Brexit — that is causing businesses to delay investments and product launches.

Although some agencies slowed in growth, others thrived. Those that did well — such as Weber Shandwick, which was the fastest growing of the top 10 — cited a variety of factors for their success, including a close relationship with clients, understanding their audiences, diversifying with new opportunities and using Technology, such as data-driven insights.

So why did Stone Junction do well in a market that showed such varied results? This can be attributed to two factors; being experts in our niche, and using the right recruitment strategy.

The specialist nature of our agency means that we have a deep understanding of the engineering and technology industry and work with businesses that span the broad spectrum of engineering niches, from aerospace and industrial automation to pharmaceutical and environmental ecotoxicology.

We also use the right recruitment strategy. Hiring people with specialist skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects, as well as those with language skills — we have seven languages in-house, including English — means we can deliver value-laden services to technology companies that are growing internationally.

As many technology companies make the move to digitalise their supply chains, our clients also benefit from our investments in digital. Everyone at Stone Junction goes through the process of becoming qualified in digital channels such as Facebook Blueprint, Twitter Flightdeck and Google Fundamentals and we've recently introduced a new digital clippings portal in the form of CoverageBook.

We're delighted to have been recognised by PRWeek, and we've got our sights set to do even better in the next round of rankings. So, if you're an engineering or technology business that wants to work with an up and coming technology PR agency, get in touch with us on [email protected]
