In order to provide renewable energy to its residents, the Austin City Council announced that its plan to acquire about 450 megawatts of solar power to solar farms along the West Texas area will push through.

Based on the report from Austin American-Statesman, residential customers should expect an increase of $8 to $11 on their annual electric bills. Meanwhile, Austin Monitor reported that the Austin Energy will pay out $50 million per year for the solar energy.
Austin Energy hopes to achieve its long-term vision and that is to generate 55 percent of its power from renewable sources by 2025.
