Why is the white house pink?

The White House was illuminated pink on Thursday evening to mark the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The iconic building glowed in the night sky, a powerful symbol of hope and solidarity for those affected by the disease.

President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden joined a group of Breast Cancer survivors and advocates on the South Lawn for a ceremony to light the White House. In his remarks, the President spoke about the importance of early detection and access to affordable healthcare for all women.

"Breast cancer is a devastating disease, but we have made great progress in recent years," the President said. "Thanks to early detection and advances in treatment, more women are surviving breast cancer than ever before."

The First Lady also spoke about the importance of raising awareness of breast cancer and supporting those affected by the disease.

"Breast cancer is a disease that touches the lives of millions of women and their families," the First Lady said. "We must continue to work together to raise awareness, support research, and ensure that every woman has access to the care they need."

The White House has been illuminated pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month since 2009. The tradition began under the Obama administration and has been continued by every subsequent administration.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Early detection is key to survival, and regular mammograms and breast exams are essential for women over the age of 40.

If you or someone you know has been affected by breast cancer, there are many resources available to help. The American Cancer Society and the National Breast Cancer Foundation offer support and information to patients and their families.
