Bollywood actor Vijay Varma, who is currently one of the most sought-after stars in the showbiz, recently opened up on the rejections he faced in the industry in his early days.

During an interaction with Times of India, Vijay revealed that he had auditioned for the role of one of the lead characters in the film 'Kai Po Che'. However, the role eventually went to Sushant Singh Rajput and it marked his big Bollywood debut.

Vijay also mentioned that he had auditioned for 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' and was even considered for a brief period, but things did not work out in his favour eventually.

Vijay stated that after all these years, today he understands why the actors who were chosen for the roles were indeed correct. "When I looked at those movies, I know why the casting happened and how incredible those actors have been. It hurt at that time but I have seen several actors who come up to me and say ‘I wanted to do that role, you were doing’ or that ‘We’d tested for your part and wanted to do it’. It's a cycle that we all have to get used to," he said.

After facing several setbacks, Vijay finally got his due with his roles in 'Pink' and 'Gully Boy', that catapulted him to overnight success.

He was recently seen in the Alia Bhatt-starrer 'Darlings', in which he played the role of an alcoholic and abusive husband, and received critical acclaim for his portrayal.

Vijay will be next seen in Sujoy Ghosh's 'The Devotion of Suspect X' opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat. Recently, he also wrapped up the shoot of the hit web series 'Mirzapur 3'.
