Kenya Forms Committee to Investigate Worldcoin Operations

The Kenyan government has formed a parliamentary Committee to look into already suspended Worldcoin into the country. The committee includes 15 members which is led by Gabriel Koshal Tongoyo, a parliamentary member of Norak West.

According to the local news outlet The Star, the members in this committee are drawn from different departmental committees including Committee of Administration and Internal Security, Committee of Communication and Innovation, and Committee of Tourism and Wildlife.

The newly formed committee is given 42 days by National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula to investigate Worldcoin and submit report to the House.

Earlier this month, Kenya suspended Worldcoin amid skyrocketing user signups  across the country. With this suspension, Kenya raised concerns about safety and protection of users’ iris data.

Apart from the government, Worldcoin is also rejected by several regulatory bodies in Kenya. The Kenyan Court has also ordered to preserve data it has already collected until the completion of a lawsuit filed by the office of the Data Commissioner.
