About our Company:Tucked just between Zilker Park and Downtown Austin, Carpenter Hotel evokes an easy time in Austin full of fresh air, Texas sunshine, and days spent lazing by the water with a book. A bridge between the city and the outdoors, each part of the property nods to its native surroundings and its rich history. The lobby, restaurant Carpenters Hall, and coffee shop are built in the former Carpenters Local 1266 Union Hall, built in 1948. The hotel features a pool, large pavilion, and 93-rooms, each with a private terrace. College Degree preferredTwo (2) years related experience in hospitality or service industryMust be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) of the workplaceAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manualsAbility to write routine reports and correspondenceAbility to speak effectively before groups of co-workers and sister property staffAbility to create documents in Excel and WordAbility to understand other computer programs (i.e. Property Management System and Point of Sale)Ability to apply concepts of math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and algebra, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Bunkhouse is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. All employment is decided on the basis of qualifications, merit and business need.Job Responsibilities:Ensure all Employees adhere to dress code policies for their scheduled shiftCompile and balance cash receipts at the end of the day or shiftResolve customer complaints regarding food serviceTrain and supervise workers in food preparation, and in service, sanitation and safety proceduresInspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure efficient service and conformance to standardsObserve and evaluate work procedures in order to ensure quality standards and serviceSchedule staff hours and assign duties, responsibilities and workstations in accordance with work requirementsEnsure guests receive indulgent service by maintaining a properly staffed restaurantMonitor employee and patron activities to ensure liquor regulations are obeyedDemonstrate a working understanding of labor cost control through effective scheduling and proactive managementEstablish cost improvement objectives and implement action plansFollow inventory standards and procedures to consistently conduct an accurate inventoryPerform personnel actions, consulting with HR and other managers as necessaryEnsure staff has a complete understanding of their job requirements and training before holding them accountable for resultsMaintain awareness of documentation needed and retained in employee filesEvaluate new products for usefulness and suitabilityAnalyze operational problems, such as theft and wastage, and establish procedures to alleviate these problemsMonitor compliance with health and fire regulations regarding food preparation and serving, and building maintenance in lodging and dining facilitiesEnsure open lines of communication with staff, all departments and upper management at all times via email, logbooks, meetings, etc., to ensure all needs of the hotel are metMaintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work areaAdhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos and verbal instructionEnsure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working conditionMaintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the propertyKeep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirementsAttend relevant meetingsBased upon fluctuating demands of the operation and in order to exceed expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.Working Conditions/Environment:The noise level in the work environment is usually moderateThe person in this position may have to lift up to fifty (50) pounds on a daily basis; anything over fifty (50) pounds is considered a minimum two (2) person liftThe person having this position may have to remain stationary for one (1) hour, move about/traverse property spaces, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for up to eight (8) hours per dayCompensation & Benefits:Bunkhouse pays competitive wages and offers a liberal working environment that encourages individuality and creativity.
