Are Mass Killings a Form of Summer Hysteria?

Tags: mass young men

In this very troubled world of ours, one very frightening thing is becoming evident, that not only are there people out there who do not think the way most of us think these people are also very capable of committing acts of Mass murder for their beliefs.

Germany is in the grip of a potentially disastrous road to hell with what the media have described as mentally challenged young men committing acts of barbarity.

In Britain hate crime has soared since the Brexit referendum, with 6,000 occurrences recorded in June 2016 alone.

France has seen so much death and destruction of late it beggars belief.

America has had so many mass shootings against a backdrop of right-wing political fervour it makes one very aware of the potential for a dark future for the USA.

Now Japan has had a mass knife killing at a care home for mental patients, apparently by someone who worked there who wanted to see all mentally disturbed people gone.

What is the world coming to? Terrorism, it seems, isn’t now a wholly organised thing but something carried out by lone wolf individuals who may or may not be affiliated to mad groups such as ISIS.

With so many mentally challenged people seemingly able to get hold of weapons, build bombs and be willing to kill and maim others it’s almost like the beginning of a Lemmings style period of mass madness that leads some humans to want to die, but take innocent people with them in the process. Is that what all these killings are about? Are we seeing many young men wanting to die, but too afraid of suicide to kill themselves and so they will commit carnage and murder in order for the police to dispatch them, thus doing that which they are afraid to do themselves. Believe me, I know it sounds a crazy idea, but then these seem to be crazy times.

Or is all this madness simply a form of mass hysteria?

It wasn’t long ago that mass rioting broke out all across the UK and it has happened several times in my sixty-one years. All these events took place in the backdrop of a long hot summer. True, most of the recent mayhem in France over the last 18 months was not in the summer, but can the ISIS mass murders simply be a trigger for mentally disturbed people to carry out their own agenda, but nail their acts to the flagpole of hate that is ISIS. It can’t be that simple can it? Are young men going crazy and killing people on the back of religious fervour, but in reality is’s a sort of mass hysteria because it’s a long hot summer?

I doubt we will ever know what all this mayhem is really about and we can only hope it dies out and we go back to a semblance of normality… except for the poor loved ones of those who have been killed, injured and gripped with terror. I fear they will never see another normal day dawn again.
