Supporting Palestine: Ways to Get Involved Right Now

Facing challenges in Gaza and frustrations with politicians can make it seem like our efforts are futile. However, it’s crucial not to lose hope, as maintaining optimism is vital for the liberation of the Palestinian people. Here are practical and accessible ways to support and uplift the people in Gaza.

Join the Global Strike (Now until January 28th)

Palestinian Journalist Bisan Owda has initiated a week-long global strike, urging those with the means to participate. This entails refraining from non-essential purchases such as groceries, fast food, and, if feasible, even abstaining from work or school for the week. While acknowledging that complete abstinence may not be viable for everyone, making conscious efforts to limit spending on non-essential items sends a powerful message.

Purpose: Politicians are often more responsive to economic impact, making the global strike a strategic way to prompt them to heed our collective voice.

Follow Palestinian Journalists

Stay informed by following Palestinian Journalists on social media. Two I frequently keep up with are:

  • Bisan Owda: @wizard_bisan1 on Instagram and TikTok
  • @eye.on.palestine on Instagram and TikTok

It’s crucial to hear directly from those experiencing the conflict. Bisan, a 25-year-old in Gaza, provides daily video updates, while @eye.on.palestine shares images and videos depicting various Gazan experiences. Some of the content is extremely disturbing, but personally I find it important to watch as that’s what is actively happening. Obviously take care of yourself when needed.

Donate an E-sim

Consider donating e-Sims to Gaza as a practical way to make a direct impact. Gaza residents often face blackouts, and e-Sims provide a means to stay connected during these times. Whether communicating with family outside Gaza or enabling journalists to share their messages, donating e-Sims is an accessible way to assist Gazans. You can contribute as little as $4 for one GB or up to $40 for 20 GB. Your donation goes directly to supporting this essential communication tool.

Continue Following BDS Guidelines

BDS (which stands for Boycott, Divest, Sanction) has outlined key companies to strategically target which fund the IDF. This short list ensures a targeted boycott, which is more effective than one spread out over hundreds of different companies. Avoid purchasing from these brands whenever possible.

“Because whatever has happened to humanity, whatever is currently happening to humanity, it is happening to all of us. No matter how hidden the cruelty, no matter how far off the screams of pain and terror, we live in one world.”
