StuG III self propelled gun destroyed by soldiers of the 2nd Polish Corps

StuG III self propelled gun destroyed by soldiers of the 2nd Polish Corps during the fight for Montoro, Italy. Date 6th, July 1944.

The Sturmegeschütz was an F or F/8 version, it has a long gun but doesn’t had the Topfblende pot mantlet (often called Saukopf  „Pig’s head” in English) so manufactured before  October 1943.

Did you know? The initial significant upgrade for the Stug Iii featured the longer 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/43 gun, in March, 1942. Using armor-piercing Panzergranat-Patrone 39 ammunition, it could penetrate 91 mm of armor inclined at 30 degrees from vertical at 500 m, 82 mm at 1,000 m, 72 mm at 1,500 m, and 63 mm at 2,000 m.
