MUSIC LESSONS: Taconic Music’s Strings for Kids lessons begin September 18. Strings for Kids offers violin, viola and cello instruction throughout the school year for children ages 5–18, from beginning and intermediate through advanced levels. Starting the week of September 18, lessons will take place at various locations in Manchester and Dorset, VT. Fall and Winter terms consist of 10 private lessons and a recital. A shorter Spring term comprises 4 lessons and an end-of-year recital. Students also have an opportunity to perform in family concerts alongside professional musicians at the Manchester Community Library and participate in masterclasses. 2023–24 faculty includes Deanna Baasch (violin), Vesela French (violin and viola), Joana Genova (violin), Heather Münch (violin), François Sécordel, (violin), Ariel Rudiakov (viola) and Jared Shapiro (cello). CALL FOR ART SHOW ENTRIES: Saratoga Clay Arts Center is seeking submissions for its 5th annual national juried exhibition, “COLOR POP!,” curated by California potter and artist Didem Mert. COLOR POP! Is an exhibition of functional or vessel-oriented ceramic works that utilize color theory to express thoughts, ideas, and emotions. Entry Deadline: December 5. Join us for “Homesteading on Half an Acre,” a collaborative Program between the Milton Grange and Brookside Museum. ART SHOW: The 26th Annual “Autumn Jewels” judged Art Show will be held at the Clifton Park Senior Community Center Gallery, 6 Clifton Common Blvd., from October 3 to October 30. This show is sponsored by Southern Saratoga Art Society and is open to all area artists. Entries will be judged and cash prizes awarded in both the fine arts and photography. An award reception for all artists, families and friends will be held on Monday, October 23 at 6:30 at the Senior Center. SCHOLARSHIP: Applications will be received from now until September 15 for the Melvin D. Wrisley Scholarship Award through the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County. Selection will be made by a committee appointed by the President of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County Board of Directors. Criteria will include a demonstrated interest in agriculture, satisfactory completion of at least one year of an accredited New York State College, character, leadership, and service. Preference may be given to but not limited to applicants from Saratoga County and those with special interest in farming and pursuing an agricultural degree. GRANT APPLICATIONS: The Saratoga Casino Hotel Foundation is now accepting grant applications for the 2023 grant cycle. The Foundation exists to support charitable and public benefit organizations whose mission is the betterment of quality of life, health and welfare of Saratoga County residents. To qualify for a grant, organizations must be classified as a not-for-profit organization by the Internal Revenue Service and applicants must carry out services and activities that benefit the residents of Saratoga County. Activities that address problem gambling, support youth activities, senior citizens, recreation, arts and community are given priority. This year, the Foundation will be accepting grant applications by electronic means only. The deadline for submitting applications is September 15. The application is available on the Foundation website, www.saratogacasinohotelfoundation.org and must be submitted via e-mail to [email protected]. The Foundation Board will meet on September 28, to decide on the grants and grant recipients will be notified by October 4 as to the status of their application. Grant awards will be mailed the following week.

ART EXHIBIT: Saratoga Clay Arts Center, 167 Hayes Road, Schuylerville. DENATURED, a solo exhibition featuring the sculptural vessels of Texas artist Adam Knoche, will run August 26 through September 30. Admission is free. ART EXHIBIT: Spring Street Gallery, 110 Spring Street, Saratoga Springs, welcomes Royal Brown’s exhibit “The Evidence of Things Unseen” August 23 – October 27. Royal Brown, an artist, shaman and mystic, shares intimate spiritual creations born from life experience, meditation, creativity, engineering and mechanical skills. His focus is to bring about a new way of seeing that is normal and projected to be perceived as supernatural in “The Evidence of Things Unseen.” A portion of the sales of this exhibition will benefit Black Dimensions in Art (BDA). YOUTH ACTOR REGISTRATION: Home Made Theater is pleased to announce open registration for students ages 8-18 for the Home Made Theater Youth Conservatory production of The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition. A TREMENDOUS MACHINE: “A Tremendous Machine: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Secretariat’s Triple Crown” is open to the public at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. At the conclusion of the Saratoga racing season, “A Tremendous Machine” will travel to Colonial Downs in Secretariat’s home state of Virginia. The onsite exhibition at the Museum will remain on view through Oct. 29.

SARATOGA COUNTY HISTORY CENTER: The Saratoga County History Center is proud to present a new exhibit, “A Saratoga Family Tale,” which tells the stories of several interconnected families as they established themselves in and around Saratoga County throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. The exhibit will be featured in the Long Room at Brookside Museum until November 17. “A Saratoga Family Tale” follows the Medbery, Clark, and Betts families from their various colonial settlements to their eventual settlement in Saratoga and Rensselaer Counties. Numerous photographs, family trees, artifacts, and a Civil War uniform worn by Col. James C. Clark will be on display. The exhibit can be visited during the museum’s open hours, Tuesday through Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. SLATE VALLEY MUSEUM: The Slate Valley Museum, 17 Water Street, Granville, is open for the season. This season’s featured exhibit is Quarrymen, an exhibition curated by Welsh photographer Carwyn Rhys Jones. Previously on view at the National Slate Museum and other venues in Wales, this special exhibition is comprised of a short documentary and photography stills. Regular museum admission is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens (65+). Admission is free for children, members of the military, and slate workers. The exhibition will remain on view through November 4 of this year.

ADIRONDACK EXPERIENCE MUSEUM: Adirondack Experience (ADKX) is now open for its 2023 season, inspiring visitors to learn and connect with all-things Adirondack, past and present. In addition to its expansive list of ongoing daily offerings, ADKX is pleased to welcome the return of its hands-on workshops for the first time in several years. Also new this year is the permanent exhibition Artists & Inspiration in the Wild. As part of the new exhibition, the museum will welcome nine regional artists to create on-site throughout the summer for its new Inspired by the Adirondacks Artist-In-Residence program. FARM TOURS: Join the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame as we visit farms throughout Saratoga County. CONGRESS PARK TOURS: Live guided tours of Saratoga’s renowned Congress Park have resumed. The tours will run daily, Tuesday through Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and will be led by experienced guides—several of whom have been giving the tours for more than 10 years. During the 90-minute walk, guests will hear the stories of the founding of the city and the park which dates back to 1792. They will also hear about the native Americans who lived in the area, how Frederick Law Olmsted designed the park and the contributions of Saratoga’s historical figures such as Gideon Putnam, Dr. John Clark, John Morrissey and Lucy Skidmore. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS: Regular Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. City Council meetings are held in the Music Hall at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the meeting agenda for times of Public Hearings. The Ramp Door on the Broadway entrance to the building will be open for public access at 6:30 p.m. The Council routinely reviews and approves Rules of Conduct for public meetings, which will be followed at all meetings of the City Council, including the Public Comment period, for the benefit of all citizens. MEMORY CAFE: A partnership between Galway Town Hall and the Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern New York Chapter that offers social support and engagement for people living with dementia and their care partners. The Memory Cafe offers a supportive, welcoming environment for caregivers and their loved ones who are experiencing memory loss due to Alzheimer’s or another dementia. You can expect a judgment-free zone, the opportunity to connect with others, light refreshments and simple, yet meaningful and engaging activities. PRE-K NATURE HOUR: Taking place on one Monday every month Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park holds a Pre-K Nature Hour at Camp Saratoga. This monthly program is for children ages 3-6 years old. SURVIVORS OF SUICIDE SUPPORT GROUP: The “Further Along Survivors of Suicide” Monthly Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month. The group is structured to meet the needs of people who have lost a loved one to suicide and who are approximately 18-24 months past the date of their loss. It is not designed for someone who is recently bereaved. Facilitators are peers who have attended AFSP’s (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – AFSP.org) “Facilitating a Suicide Bereavement Support Group” training. There is no charge, but we encourage people to bring a treat to share or a book that would help someone else on their healing journey that we can include in our lending library. SLOW ROLL: A “Slow Roll” is a leisurely bike ride around Saratoga Springs with a group of bike enthusiasts while remaining socially distant and COVID conscious. You will see parts of Saratoga you may not have in a while and enjoy the company of others you love the outdoors and biking! The ride will be guided by Bikeatoga looping through quiet and safe neighborhood streets. The pace will be suitable for families too! Rides are scheduled for the last Sunday of each month, held in participation with Bikeatoga, Bicycle Benefits, Impressions of Saratoga, Dark Horse Mercantile and Palette. MEAL DELIVERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Saratoga County Office for the Aging is in need of volunteers to help deliver meals to homebound seniors in Saratoga County. This program helps many seniors age 60 and over remain independent in their own homes. Nutritious meals meeting the 1/3 RDA requirement are prepared, packed and ready for pickup at 10:30 a.m. Delivery takes about an hour. Training and orientation are provided. STORY QUILT GRANTS:The Galway Public Library is accepting applications for Story Quilt Arts & Literary Grants, which are available to artists and writers who wish to present programs or projects at the library or at other venues within the Galway Central School District. SPAC LEARNING LIBRARY: Saratoga Performing Arts Center announced that it has unveiled its new Learning Library, created to bring free original arts educational content to students, families and educators at a time when previously scheduled in-school presentations and classes are not feasible due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the Center’s mission to provide meaningful educational programming to the community while also supporting local artists, the videos and exercises feature more than 25 professional musicians and dancers who have been affected by the pandemic such as Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, professional stepping company Soul Steps and Caroga Arts Collective, as well as former Broadway performers, composers and local storytellers. SPAC believes in the transformative power of art and beauty to restore and enrich the human spirit. ART SUPPLIES NEEDED: Transitional Services Association (TSA) is proud to announce the launch of the Saratoga Art Pantry, a place to collect and store art supplies in an effort to advance art therapy. Studies have shown that art can help people through mental health difficulties, coping with stress, and feelings of isolation. Currently, the pantry is empty and money and supplies are needed. Transitional Services Association will continue to collect new or used art supplies and monetary donations at their administrative offices at 127 Union St. in Saratoga Springs between 9am and 5pm, Monday – Friday and via their website TSA-Inc.org. Donations may include, but are not limited to, acrylic paint, white glue, canvases and even home repair supplies such as caulk and spray paint. SENIOR RESOURCES: The Senior Services Committee of CAPTAIN CHS has started a Clearinghouse website for senior citizens and their caregivers. Included are informational websites as well as virtual programs and entertainment. Studies have shown that Seniors are increasingly vulnerable to social isolation (a fact of life during the pandemic), and we have found a large number of programs which can help alleviate the sense of being alone.There are programs listed which can be accessed anytime and programs which are time sensitive which will be updated as appropriate. Most programs are free, but there are some which charge a fee. WORLD AWARENESS CHILDREN’S MUSEUM: The World Awareness Children’s Museum is the first and only children’s museum in the country with multicultural education as its core mission. The Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and houses more than 10,000 pieces of children’s art and donated objects from around the world in its collection. Regular museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Monday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. FISH CREEK ROD AND GUN CLUB MEMBERSHIP: Fish Creek Rod and Gun Club is currently accepting new members. If you enjoy the outdoors or just like to shoot ( pistol, rifle, shotgun, bow) we are here for you. If you enjoy being around other people and providing a service, we are here for you (Monthly Breakfast, Horseshoe League, Clam Steam, Fish Fry). We offer camping sites on our property for our members, electricity is provided. We have 100-plus acres of property that is available for hiking or trail riding or hunting. Fish Creek runs along our western boundary and is available for fishing or boating. Our club house/pavilion can accommodate up to 400 people. How to become a member: You must come to our club house and pick up an application (call before stopping in 518-695-3917 to make sure someone is there). You must fill out the application and answer all the questions. You will need to have a current member in good standing and at least one year as a member to be your sponsor. When you turn in your application you are required to pay one year of dues and the initiation fee, currently $55, this is not refundable. Your application will be read to the membership at the following meeting and tabled for one month, after one month you and your sponsor will need to attend the next meeting to be voted on by the membership. POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION SUPPORT GROUP: Albany Med’s Division of General Pediatrics will host a weekly Postpartum Depression Support Group for mothers and fathers struggling emotionally following the birth of a child. The group is open to mothers who have given birth within the past year and fathers with a child less than one year old who have no additional support. Babies are welcome. GALWAY TRAILMASTERS: The Galway Trailmasters are an active group of local snowmobile enthusiasts who work diligently to maintain our local trail system. THERAPY DOGS READY FOR DUTY: Alliance of Therapy Dogs teams are ready for duty in the Capital Region. The certified therapy dogs are available to serve at schools, colleges, libraries, nursing homes, hospitals, airports and special events. The ATD teams can also help first responders, police officers, military personnel and veterans deal with trauma. All ATD canines meet health and vaccination standards. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation needs volunteers to help with the rehabilitation project at 65 Phila Street, the 1851 Alexander A. Patterson House. We are looking for volunteers to help with projects, carpentry experience is appreciated, but is not necessary. An extra set of hands to help with various tasks can make a difference! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Saratoga County Department of Aging and Youth Services is seeking volunteers to drive seniors to and from medical appointments. The county provides the vehicle, gas, schedule, and directions to volunteers. Volunteer opportunities for drivers are immediately available. This important program is part of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), which helps to recruit volunteers age 55 or older for many opportunities throughout Saratoga County. Volunteering as a driver for the Saratoga County Department of Aging and Youth Services is a great opportunity for retired individuals who want to give back to their community. To become a volunteer, individuals must submit paperwork, including references, to the Saratoga County Department of Aging and Youth Services. Volunteers must have a valid driver license.
