Celebrating 25 Years of “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”: A Timeless Bollywood Classic

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai: Celebrating 90s Classic of Love and Friendship

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Johar’s first feature film, was released in 1998 and starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji in the key parts. The movie, which is mainly a love drama, spends a lot of time following the lives of three college buddies.

Celebrated for its unvarnished depiction of youthful love and friendship, it went on to become a quintessential, escape-oriented 90s classic. “Pyaar, dosti hai“—which means “love is friendship“—became a slogan during that era. The movie was also quite popular with Western diaspora viewers.

Johar was accompanied at the screening by Rani Mukerji and Shah Rukh Khan, who talked about the influence of the adored movie. But Kajol wasn’t there for the occasion.

“This movie marks a significant turning point in our lives and emotions,” Shah Rukh Khan exclaimed to the enthusiastic crowd. 25 years have passed since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

A portion of the motion pictures we make are neglected, some perform uncommonly well at that specific time, and some perform not in any way shape or form.Regardless, this is a film that has held up very well for a really long time. It has held up almost as well as Karan Johar, SRK said.

In exchange, Johar referred to the Jawan actor as the “biggest movie star in the world.”

Rani Mukerji said that she filmed Kuch Kuch Hota Hai when she was just 17 years old. It was Mukherji and Shah Rukh Khan’s debut movie together. Later on, the actors would work together on more movies, including Hey Ram, Veer Zaara, Paheli, Chalte Chalte, and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

It’s wonderful because, like Sana (Saeed, who plays Anjali in the movie), I have a daughter who will turn eight in December. I might not be the celebrity I am today if Kuch Kuch Hota Hai hadn’t happened.

So, thank you, Shah Rukh and Karan. Nobody does romance quite like Shah Rukh, I often say. Shah Rukh taught me how to do romance in movies, Mukherjee beamingly said.

Johar shared a video of several of the most memorable scenes from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai on social media on Monday.

It all started 25 years ago,” he wrote. And now that we’re here, commemorating not just a movie but also, I believe, an EMOTION for everyone—judging by the overwhelming support we’ve received for it.

I appreciate your unwavering devotion for this story of Pyaar & Dosti even to this day, and I appreciate how warmly you have celebrated my 25 years as a filmmaker. I will always be appreciative of the people I have the good fortune to work with, the people I meet who see my movies, and the power of movies.
