Punjab Ex-CM Amarinder Singh To Set Up New Party; Hints At Possibility Of Seat-Sharing With BJP

Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, on Wednesday, hinted at inclinations of forming a new political party ahead of the state elections scheduled next year. Mr Singh while addressing a press conference on Wednesday revealed that many leaders were in touch with him and their names would come to light a the right time.

Furthermore, he also mentioned that they were awaiting clearance from the Election Commission post which the name and symbol of the party shall be disclosed. Launching into an alliance with the BJP, Amarinder Singh commented that he is yet to communicate with the BJP and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa’s party Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt). However, he indicated the likelihood of having a seat-sharing pact with the aforementioned parties.

“Many people are with us and we will fight to acquire all the 117 seats in Punjab” he added while highlighting that he was backed by several Congress leaders too but would reveal their names at a later stage since they were already being harassed.

While addressing the media, Captain Amarinder Singh handed out a report card that compared the promises made by him as a part of the election manifesto to those achieved in the course of his tenure. He claimed to have fulfilled over 90 per cent of the commitments made by him during the 2017 elections.

Taking a dig at the mockery he is subjected to with regards to security measures, he said that he has been a part of the Army for 10 years and was well aware of the basics. Amarinder also acknowledges the fact that something is going wrong in Punjab. He believes that it would benefit everyone if the Government decides to accept the facts instead of denying them.

He is determined to defeat Sidhu no matter where he contests from. Concurrently Navjot Singh Sidhu rebuked Amarinder Singh calling him the “ED controlled BJP loyal Chief Minister of Punjab” who traded the interests of the state to save his skin.

Amarinder Singh, last year faced an undignified exit from the state government when he put down his papers amid a bitter conflict with Punjab’s Congress Chief, Sidhu.
