St. Martin Island

Living corals can be seen under the transparent sea water of St. Martin Island, one of the frequent visited spot of Cox’s bazar. St. Martin Island is situated in the Bay of Bengal about 100km off from Cox’s bazar and 8km south of Teknaf. It is the only coral island of the country. St. Martin Island was named after a British Governor. St. Martin Island is famous for the corals and a large number of coconut trees. The area of the island is 9 sq km. One can travel the entire island by walking. It will take about 3 hours to walk around the whole area. Riding on the local transport rickshaw van is adventurous and the water of green coconut is really good to drink. Another name of the island is Narikel Zinjira(coconut rows) which had given by the local people. If you want to stay at St. Martin Island, it is wise to book hotel or motel room well in advance, as accommodation facility is not adequate there.
Another attraction of Narikel Zinjira is Cherra Dip. It will be a rare experience for every one who will visit Cherra Dip. It becomes detached from the main island during high tide. Different types of sea animal like flying fish, tortoise, and dolphins are often seen in the water around the island.
