A few months ago, Black-ish creator Kenya Barris announced that ABC green lit his new comedy spin-off called College-ish, starring Yara Shahidi. Now it is in production, the writing officially has started and the show has been renamed Grown-ish.
The spin-off will air on Freeform and it will focus on Zoey Johnson (Yara) as she starts college and discovers that the transition from leaving home isn't a smooth one.
“grown-ish reflects what we’ll be dealing with in the show – that in between place where you’re not quite an adult but facing grown world problems for the first time,” stated creator and executive producer Kenya Barris. “Where black-ish examines what it means to be black, grown-ish is an examination of what it is and what it means to be grown.”
Grown-ish is confirmed to debut 13-episodes, but has not yet set a premiere date. Oh, and don't worry, Yara reassured her fans that she will still be on Black-ish.
We are so excited about this spin-off. Black-ish is definitely our generation's Cosby Show, which automatically makes Grown-ish our 'A Different World.'
