South Movies This Week: Enai Noki Paayum Thota, Damayanthi And Raja Vaaru Rani Gaaru

Another Friday rolls in and with it brings the usual rigmarole of new film releases. With Bollywood and Hollywood, South cinema also occupies a large chunk of theatrical business in India and no doubt, would be on any self-respecting movie-buff's radar regardless whether she/he has traditionally grown up watching South movies. This week will see a host of South Indian movies tussling at cinema halls, but only three of them are arriving with any buzz one each from Kollywood, Tollywood and Sandalwood. So, let's check out the solitary Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films releasing this week that could be worth checking out:

1.) Enai Noki Paayum Thota (Tamil)

Director: Gautham Menon

Cast: Dhanush, Megha Akash, Sasikumar, Sunainaa

Synopsis: When a regular college boy falls in love, his life is thrust into chaos and controversy.

Reasons to Watch: Though the film has faced multiple production and release delays (it was discussed in 2013 with another actor, Suriya, in the lead, went on floors in February 2016 with Dhanush, was 85% complete by November to 2016, was supposed to release in February 2017, got delayed due to financial reasons and other commitment of Menon and Dhanush, was again suppose to release late 2018, and is now finally seeing the light of day), and features a routine plot at least on paper anything starring Dhanush and directed by GVM is worth checking out. Plus, A.R. Rahman always saves his best for his South projects.

2.) Damayanthi (Kannada)

Director: Navarasan

Cast: Radhika Kumaraswamy, Sadhu Kokila, Tabla Nani, Naveen Krishna, Saurav Lokesh

Synopsis: A woman returns to exact revenge years after her family was brutally murdered. However, she decided to do so with a 'comically horrific' twist

Reasons to Watch: First and foremost, it marks the comeback of famous Kannada screen queen, Radhika, after a considerable amount of time. She'll be seen in three shades, offering added incentive for her fans who've missed watching her on the big screen. The rest of the cast also boasts talented artistes from Kannada cinema, and it's not always that a revenge plot goes the horror-comedy route.

3.) Raja Vaaru Rani Gaaru (Telugu)

Director: Ravi Kiran Kola

Cast: Kiran Abbavaram, Rahasya Gorak

Synopsis: A boy, residing in a peaceful village, struggles with professing his love to the girl of his dreams, and seeks the help of his two close friends to help get his love-life on track.

Reasons to Watch: Though the plot of this one, too, sounds familiar, the trailer had a fresh, earthy vibe, and talented lead pair could make it work if the film has something novel to offer the youth.

So, which of these will be your South pick this week? Tweet and let us know @bollywood_life
