The megastar of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, has enjoyed 100% success at the box-office during Diwali. All his films released during the Diwali weekend, including Baazigar, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Dil Toh Pagala Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Mohabbatein, Happy New Year, Veer-Zaara, Om Shanti Om, and Ra.One (a semi-hit) have turned out to be money-spinners at ticket windows. In fact, SRK films had actually become synonymous with Diwali because of their positioning and marketing strategy. However, over the last decade, another actor has overtaken Shah Rukh Khan to enjoy the maximum number of Diwali releases along with great earnings at the box-office. Guessed it yet? Nope. Well, we are talking about Bollywood 's Singham, Ajay Devgn.
Since 2008, the Golmaal actor has had six releases during the festive season of Diwali, including, Golmaal Returns, All the Best: Fun Begins, Golmaal 3, Son Of Sardaar, Shivaay, and Golmaal Again. Except for Shivaay, all the others turned out to be winners at the box-office, with All the Best, too, emerging a moderate success. Golmaal 3, Son of Sardaar, and Golmaal Again, even went on to earn over Rs. 100 crore nett at ticket windows. Interestingly, out of these six films, five have been helmed by blockbuster Director Rohit Shetty. On the other hand, SRK has had only three releases Ra.One, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and Happy New Year during the festival of lights in the same period.
This year though, it's neither Ajay nor Shah Rukh having a Diwali release. Akshay Kumar, Rajkummar Rao, Taapsee Pannu, and Bhumi Pednekar arrive on the huge date with Housefull 4, Saand Ki Aankh, and Made In China. We hope these ventures turn out to be successful at the box-office. Coming to Diwali 2020, there's likely to be a clash between Akshay Kumar's Prithviraj and Kangana Ranaut's Dhaakad. As for Diwali 2021, there's the possibility of Bollywood offering us the magnum opus, Mahabharat, in which Deepika Padukone will play the character of Draupadi.
