Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai released about 20 years ago but it seems that the film hit the cinemas only yesterday. Maybe it is because of our memories attached to his cult film by Karan Johar. Interestingly, at the recently concluded Indian Film Festival Of Melbourne, KJo revealed his wishlist of actor that he would want to be a part of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and the names that he took, make for an interesting combination. Karan Johar said that he wants Ranveer Singh to reprise SRK's role, cast Alia Bhatt as Anjali (Kajol) and Janhvi Kapoor as Tina (Rani Mukerji).
"On my wishlist would be Ranveer Singh as Rahul. He has that mad intensity as Shah Rukh Khan. Alia Bhatt as Anjali. She has the spunk and Janhvi Kapoor as Tina because she has the poise and balance of the part," Karan said during an audience interaction.
Going a trip down the memory lane, Karan recounted how three actresses refused to take up Tina's role in the film. He said, "I was ecstatic to met SRK. Kajol and he had promised that they will do my first film. So I remembering going to meet him and I had no script whatsoever. I only had a scene in my mind. Which I narrated to him. And he bought into my bullshit. I told him if you like this one scene then I will narrate the entire film to you, which was completely a lie. Tabu, Urmila, Aishwarya turned me down and Ash was the only one who was polite to call me back. It took months to cast for Rani's part after Aditya Chopra recommended me her name."
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai completed twenty years in 2018 and the filmmaker had hosted a big party to celebrate the film's anniversary. On the work front, Karan is wearing the director's hat again for a period drama named Takht.
