United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Condemns Hamas in Diplomatic Visit to Israel

United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made a significant visit to Israel on Thursday, engaging in diplomatic talks with Israeli President Isaac Herzog. During this visit, he unequivocally condemned Hamas, a group that governs Gaza, for their brutal attack on October 7, which tragically claimed the lives of over 1,400 Israelis in a single day.

Prime Minister Sunak's visit coincided with the 13th day of Israel's conflict with Hamas, and he left no room for ambiguity in his description of the terror organization. He stated, "First and foremost, I want to express my solidarity with you and your country after you have suffered something unspeakable, a barbaric act of terrorism. As you said, we should call it what it is: an act of terrorism perpetrated by an evil terrorist organization, Hamas."

Sunak further emphasized the United Kingdom's unwavering support for Israel, asserting, "We will stand with Israel, we will stand with you in solidarity with your people and your right to defend yourself, to bring security back to your country, to your people, to ensure the safe return of the hostages that have been taken."

The UK Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for the support that Israel had provided to the families of British nationals caught up in this tragedy.

Amidst this, some U.S. lawmakers, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib, made claims that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) were responsible for an explosion at a Gaza hospital. Tlaib also accused the Biden administration of funding a "genocide" against Palestinians, a claim that has been widely debunked.

Rishi Sunak underlined the United Kingdom's support for Israel's right to self-defense and urged the prompt return of Israeli hostages. He stated, "I very much appreciate that, and I know we will continue to cooperate closely and support your efforts to ensure the safe return of all the hostages."

In addition to addressing security concerns, Prime Minister Sunak emphasized the need for humanitarian assistance to civilians in Gaza. He welcomed the United Kingdom's commitment to providing further aid to the region, ensuring that it reaches those in need.

In closing, Sunak reiterated the strong friendship and solidarity between the two countries during this challenging period.

President Herzog expressed his gratitude for Sunak's visit, underscoring the resilience of the Israeli people in the face of adversity and the challenges they currently face.

This visit took place shortly after President Biden's arrival in Tel Aviv, where he engaged in discussions with Israeli officials, including President Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
