Alone(Horror Movie): Review, Plot and Casts

Bipasha BasuKaran Singh Grover feature in Bhushan Patel’s 2015 Indian horror movie Alone. The 2007 Thai film of the same name, which was itself based on the Tales from the Crypt episode “My Brothers Keeper,” served as the inspiration for the remake. Karan Singh Grover made his acting debut in the movie, and Bipasha Basu made her last appearance in the movie.

Plot

On a rainy night in Kerala, the film opens. A big tree limb falls and damages an outhouse’s roof. The lady who was looking at the outhouse winds up in the hospital.

Sanjana, the woman’s daughter, and her husband Kabir quarrel about being unable to have her birthday together in another town. As soon as Sanjana receives the news of her mother’s accident, they take off for Kerala.

In Kerala, Sanjana starts experiencing visions that lead her to think that the soul of her deceased conjoined twin is pursuing her. She is sent to his former professor for spiritual treatment since her spouse doesn’t think she’s telling the truth.

She informs the professor about how, during their time in therapy, their conjoined twin sister Anjana used to detest the fact that Kabir preferred Sanjana above her. In truth, Sanjana chose to end her relationship with Anjana when Kabir informed her that he would be returning from overseas. Anjana passed away during this procedure, and Sanjana holds herself responsible for her sister’s passing. Sanjana is reassured by the professor that her images of Anjana are only a product of her shame and her subconscious mind.

That evening, Sanjana is coerced into using the outhouse at her mother’s house by an unknown force. Kabir wakes up after hearing sounds and discovers her unconscious in the bathroom. Sanjana has Anjana’s soul when she awakens. After that, Sanjana/Anjana becomes obsessed with Kabir. She overhears the professor telling Kabir to watch her when they cross paths again because he senses something is off.

The carer recommends performing a ceremony for Sanjana/Anjana. After the ceremony, Anjana’s grasp on Sanjana grows stronger and her real colours are shown, leading to the need for an exorcist.

Anjana admits that she was slain during the kanjar. She exhorts Kabir to learn the truth about Sanjana’s passing as she departs from her body. Kabir threatens to break up with Sanjana once she awakens. Sanjana reveals to him that Anjana lost her mind and attempted to kill Sanjana because she had feelings for Kabir two years ago when he phoned to let Sanjana know he was returning home. Sanjana killed Anjana by striking her in the head with a glass music box out of self-defence. To keep her daughter safe, their mother hid the facts. They attempt to locate Anjana’s final possession and burn it to release her soul after speaking with the professor.

The music leads to the outhouse, and Sanjana, Kabir, the caretaker, and her daughter-in-law all follow it. They discover Anjana’s body beneath the floor. To collect kerosene to burn the body, the caretaker and her daughter-in-law enter the building. The spirit of Anjana murders them both. When the professor arrives at the outhouse with kerosene, Anjana takes control of him and causes him to try to harm Sanjana. While fighting him, Kabir discovers Sanjana’s locket, which he gave her when they were young, on Anjana’s corpse. Sanjana admits that she is Anjana when he confronts her. She confesses to killing Sanjana with the music box and posing as her sister to be with Kabir. Angered despite her protests that she loves him, Kabir resolves to leave her. He falls as Sanjana (now identified as Anjana) smacks him in the head with a chair to prevent him from leaving. Sanjana’s spirit prevents Anjana from murdering Kabir with a pair of scissors, causing the blazing roof to collapse on her and kill her, while the professor saves Kabir. Sanjana’s spirit is seen by Kabir grinning at him before vanishing into the flames.

Reviews

Mixed reviews were given to the movie. Trade analyst Komal Nahta stated that the lead actor, Bipasha Basu, “does a splendid job,” and anticipated that the movie will perform well at the box office. Breakups is an amazing Rajneesh Duggal film debut from Karan Singh Grover. He has a good screen presence and a good appearance. He performs with skill.

According to India TV, “Alone distinguishes itself apart from many awful horror films created in the past with some truly terrifying moments and Bipasha-Karan’s burning chemistry. As a ghost herself, Bipasha Basu excels in the beginning as a scared woman, while Karan Singh Grover displays his acting prowess with the same precision that he uses to display his physique when necessary.

However, other assessments were harsher. The two major performers were commended by Filmfare, which rated the movie three stars and said, “The only reason why Alone will succeed is for its sensual packaging. If you’re seeking a terrifying movie, you’ll only find terrible remakes of The Conjuring and other well-known Hollywood productions. When you scratch the surface, you’re not terrified half to death, according to the Times of India, which scored it a 2.5. Isn’t that what Alone is supposed to accomplish?

Bollywood Hungama awarded it two stars and stated, “On the whole, alone is a below-average fare that has a commendable performance by Bipasha Basu” It states, “Karan Singh Grover makes a sprightly debut,” praising the performance of the rookie. He is not at all aware of the camera. Given his experience on television, he has a strong emotional appeal. He has all the trappings of a celebrity, but he should pick his projects more carefully.

The sequences have been taken from several English horror films, and while they have been competently done, they leave you feeling a little letdown, according to Zed News, who scored it 1.5 stars out of 5. Rajeev Masand, a reviewer for CNN IBN, said about Alone, “I’m going with one and a half out of five. You’ll regret not staying at home.
