UN aid group says 29 staffers killed in Gaza, including many teachers, as fuel is set to run out in three days

A UN group that delivers aid to Gaza said Sunday that 29 of its staffers — about half of them teachers — have died in Israel’s war on Hamas and added that humanitarian supplies and fuel are set to run out in just days.

“We are in shock and mourning. It is now confirmed that 29 of our colleagues in #Gaza have been killed since October 7,” the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees wrote on X on Sunday morning. “Half of these colleagues were @unrwa teachers.

“As an Agency, we are devastated. We are grieving with each other and with the families,” the group added.

The UNRWA — which provides education, health care, social services and other humanitarian aid to Palestinians — noted that at least 12 people have been killed while sheltering in its schools, with another 180 injured.

The group also warned that it is running out of supplies to provide for refugees, with its fuel only set to last for three more days.

“Without fuel, there will be no water, no functioning hospitals and bakeries. Without fuel, there will be no humanitarian assistance,” the group said.

The aid group fears that if supplies run out, it would spell a humanitarian disaster for the more than half a million people it serves across the Gaza Strip.

Israel has repeatedly declared that it would not allow any fuel to enter Gaza until the estimated 210 hostages held by the terror group Hamas are freed. But the Jewish nation has said it will allow water, food and medical supplies to be delivered into Gaza.

The embargo on fuel comes after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, killing more than 1,400 people, on Oct. 7 and unleashing a fierce counterattack from the Jewish country that in turn has killed more than 4,700 Palestinians.

On Saturday, 20 trucks carried food, water and medicine into Israel, and on Sunday, another 17 trucks entered through Egypt to deliver much needed humanitarian aid, Al Jazeera reported.

“Doctors are telling us that the aid is meant for hospitals in the Gaza Strip which are in dire need of medical supplies,” reporter Khan Younis told the outlet. “No fuel has been reported on these trucks.”

Despite the recent deliveries, aid organizations operating in Gaza have slammed them as “only a drop in the ocean” of what’s needed to serve Gaza’s population of 2.3 million.

Worst attack on Israel in 50 years: How we got here

2005: Israel unilaterally withdraws from the Gaza Strip over three decades after winning the territory from Egypt in the Six-Day War.

2006: Terrorist group Hamas wins a Palestinian legislative election.

2007: Hamas seizes control of Gaza in a civil war.

2008: Israel launches military offensive against Gaza after Palestinian terrorists fired rockets into the town of Sderot.

2023: Hamas launches the biggest attack on Israel in 50 years.

Over 1,400 Israelis are dead, more than 4,200 are wounded and at least 100 were taken hostage, with the death toll expected to rise after Hamas terrorists fired thousands of rockets and sent dozens of militants into Israeli towns.

Hamas terrorists were seen taking female hostages and parading them down the street in horrifying videos.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced “We are at war” and vowed Hamas would pay “a price it has never known.”

Gaza health officials report at least 3,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 12,500 injured.

While the aid groups struggle to provide relief, the UNRWA has found itself the target of criticism from US Republican senators who are seeking to strip all of its US funding over claims that its personnel have incited violence against Jewish people.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) introduced a bill this week to block funds for the UNRWA, accusing the organization of creating antisemitic school curricula for students in the Palestinian territories of Gaza and the West Bank, as well as ignoring terrorist activities at its facilities.

“If you put money into some of these organizations such as UNRWA, that money is going to end up in the hands of Hamas. Hamas is not there to provide humanitarian aid for the Gazans, Hamas has in their charter, their goal is to destroy Israel,” Blackburn told the Post.
