Early Life
Kyle Dalton Sandilands was born on 10 June 1971 in Brisbane, Australia. In many interviews, he has told that his childhood was difficult. When he was 10, his parents got divorced. At 15, he was thrown out by his mother and stepfather after he damaged their car during a party in their absence. Then he stayed in his friend’s houses and on the streets. But never went back.
At 17, his father, Peter Sandilands sends him to his aunt, Jill Stevens living in Townsville. During an interview, Stevens said she still remembers Kyle used to listen to the D-I-V-O-R-C-E song, by Tammy Wynette and cry because he has never gotten over his parent’s divorce. He used to sit outside his father’s house and wait there till the lights off.

Kyle Sandilands got his first job at the age of 21 in 1992 as a promotional 4TO Townsville radio station’s promotional vehicle driver. He was very much willing to do whatever, to work anywhere, in any time slot to go ahead. He joined Austereo’s Triple M by using a fake resume to impress executives. In 1999, he moved to Sydney and commenced at 2Day FM as host of the Hot30 Countdown. While working at Hot30, he was paid $255,000 per year.
In a Zoo Weekly article, Sandilands was named the most hated Australian identity because of the negative aspects of his personality and behavior, especially his clashes and Ego. Sandilands and Henderson received “Best on Air Team” awards at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards in 2006. Sandilands and Jackie O were again named “Best On-Air Team” at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards in 2007,2011 and 2015.
As a result of a controversial on-air stunt on his morning show in 2009, Sandilands and Jackie O were put into “indefinite recess” by the Austereo network. He referred to one of the boy contestant’s arms as a “tuckshop lady arms”, and told a contestant to lose her “Jelly belly”.

In 2002, Sandilands competed in Big Brother and became 3rd on Day 23. In 2008, he appeared 2 weeks prior to the finale. In an attempt to boost poor ratings and promote Australian Idol, he entered the Gold Coast compound and conducted his radio program. After a heated verbal conversation with Big Brother, he began vomiting every 30 minutes and reportedly required anti-nausea injections for migraines. He soon left the house. In 2008, he was the host of the 2008 big brother season with Henderson. the rating of the 2008 series was the lowest ever in the show’s history and Network Ten confirmed that it won’t continue the current season.

In 2010 Sandilands became the judge of Australia’s GOT Talent together with Brain McFadden. During one of the auditions, Sandilands was involved in a controversy related to a contestant. He asked the contestant “Are you a male or female?” and then made a joke about her weight saying “you are a belly full of jokes”. He added that he wasn’t hired to be “bland and boring” and he was just being honest.
The X Factor
Sandilands became a judge of the second season of The X factor Australia in May 2010, along with three others. In 2011, he announced that he would not be there in season three as a judge on his Breakfast radio show.
