Samantha Mitling is a 17-year-old renowned Martial Artist from Lino Lakes, Minnesota born in Maplewood on October 25, 2005. Samantha Mitling has gained the admiration of millions by performing martial arts for 12 years straight. At such a young age of seventeen, Samantha has earned multiple titles, high rankings, and trophies throughout her career by competing and performing.

Today we have the honor of having Samantha Mitling answer direct questions that fans have been curious to know for quite some time now. Please welcome Samantha Mitling.

Q: Welcome to the magazine Samantha! Tell us, why martial arts? Why did you specifically choose to excel with the weaponry choice of the bo-staff?
A: I am passionate about Martial Arts because I feel like I can express myself through this sport. I love being able to perform and the style of martial arts I do (sport karate) allows me to do that. Also, most people don’t know this, but my dream when I was younger was to be a nunchuck pro. In our curriculum, bo is the first weapon you learn. I immediately fell in love with it and wanted to further pursue it.

Q: – What is the coolest trick you can do with the bo-staff?
A: I can do something called a double shoulder neck roll voodoo child. It’sa very hard trick and not very many people can do it. The bo rolls around your shoulders while doing a 360 spin with your body, and then you have to change the direction of your body and bo rotation to catch it.

Q: – Where do you think you can improve with your techniques in martial arts?
I have always had the hardest time with kicks such as side-kicks and hook kicks – which people are usually surprised by because of my belt rank. I need to work on those more.

Q: – Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
In 5 years from now, I see myself living in L.A. to further pursue my dreams. I see myself performing on more shows similar to “Game of Talents France” and doing stunts for film. I also see myself doing some entrepreneurship stuff, such as expanding my online bo staff course that I offer.

Q: – If the bo staff wasn’t your main passion, what would it have been if otherwise?
A: When I was 5, I danced and absolutely loved it. Out of all the sports I’ve done, dance was my second favorite. If bo staff/martial arts wasn’t my main passion, I could have seen myself becoming very passionate about dance.

Q: – Do you have any upcoming tournaments? Where and for what?
A: I travel to compete 1-2 times a month. At the end of April, I am travelling to Quebec to compete in a NASKA world tour event (Quebec Open) I will also be going to the Battle of Atlanta and US Open (Orlando, FL.) in June and July.

Q: – Have you ever had to use your defense skills outside of training and tournaments?
A: I’ve been lucky that I’ve only had to use them a couple of times. One of those times, I got put in a chokehold and had to defend myself.

Q: – Do you feel safer now knowing that you are highly trained and specialized in defense?
A: Definitely! I am not scared to be alone or go walk in public. I know that if worse comes to worst and I have to defend myself, I can do it.

Q: – Aside from the bo staff, do you use any other combat weapons?

A: In addition tobo, I know how to usekamas, swords, andnunchucks.

Q: – After going viral, how do you feel? What are your thoughts about it?

A: It honestly blows my mind that millions of people have viewed my stuff. Originally when I first downloaded social media (Instagram), my intent was to share my tournament results. If someonewould’ve told me that I would go viral, Iwould’ve thought they were crazy. I love thatI’m able to share my passionswith people from all over the world.
