Nadungamuwa Vijaya Raja, also known as Nadungamuwa Raja, was an Indian tusker who was born in Mysore about 1953. He was the current principal casket carrier in the Esala procession in Kandy, Sri Lanka. And was one of two elephant calves given to a senior native physician monk living at Nilammahara Temple Piliyandala by a Mysuru Maharaja in gratitude for curing his relative’s long-term ailment, the other elephant being the late Nawam Raja of Gangaramaya. Since then, the elephant has been given the name Nadungamuwa, after the village where he lives. Wilson Kodithuwakku aka “Kalu Mama” looks after Raja.
