Johnny Ending Explained

After being sent to prison multiple times, Patryk has now been assigned over 300 hours of community service at the local hospice centre. This centre, run by Jan Kaczkowski, has multiple patients and was almost not built because the Archbishop kept blocking his attempts at building a secular place for people to spend their last moments. However, Jan had braved multiple people, the system, his terminal illness and even those who treated him terribly to create something important that would last long and serve people.

Patryk’s entrance into this place is odd. He doesn’t belong there because he has committed crimes multiple times, smokes weed, does hard drugs and is a generally unreliable member of society, according to those around him. For Jan, this man was in dire need of love. And that was the first thing he gave the new kid. He gave the kid a community of people who would support him and those who needed support.

His journey starts off rocky, with people making him uncomfortable and the prospect of death making it unbearable. However, as time passes and he starts listening to Jan, he builds some grit and the strength to do the right thing in situations. His first night ended with debauchery, but the rest of his stay at the hospice centre was about fixing things in the centre and repairing the little things. Things shifted as he became more familiar with the people in the centre and the jobs he needed to do.

He had an interesting relationship with a patient, which started rocky and ended with them reading together, and her giving him her wedding ring so he could give it to someone special. When she passes away, Patryk loses all hope and is reminded by Jan that people must be allowed to die. They need the opportunity to be themselves in their last moments. Before she died, he had made an amazing breakfast for her, unearthing his natural talent to combine flavours.

Jan had trained him for the culinary school by emulating the cutthroat environment, and the kind of behaviour instructors would exhibit. Soon, all the training led to Patryk attending culinary school and learning professional cooking methods. At this point, Jan has been getting worse with time. His disease has been debilitating enough to confine him to a wheelchair. But that hasn’t stopped him from running the centre and making public appearances to get attention for the hospice centre.

He had done such a good job with it that they were hanging out peacefully when the guy who used to extort money from Patryk came to the hospice. Just before this, Patryk was sent to jail for not paying his fines and his crimes like thieving and breaking into private property. The judge declared he was a master manipulator and would get 3 years in prison without hope for parole. Jan pulled as many strings as possible and got him released as early as possible.

When Patryk messed up by trying to force a reconciliation by kidnapping the person, Jan could forgive his crimes and look at the sentiment underneath that. When he passed away, Patryk was the first to find him, there are many people in this world, but Jan’s contributions didn’t just change one life; they helped change many. In the end, we see the little delinquent kid grow up, get married, have kids and build a restaurant where he leads the kitchen. Only Jan could have made that possible for him, and that’s how he was honoured.
