Tags: groot

Marvel is rising in the world of television with one spin-off and origin story after the other. Gracing our screens this time is I Am Groot, based on the Marvel character of the same name who we have seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy volumes as well as Avengers Endgame. An animated series of shorts, the show is created by the well-known animator Kirsten Lepore. She is also the head writer and director for the shorts.

I Am Groot will feature Baby Groot and Rocket with each character being voiced by their respective voice actors Vin Diesel for Groot and Bradley Cooper for Rocket. Additionally, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn also has a cameo as Wrist Watch. There are five shorts in total, each 3-4 minutes long.

I Am Groot: A Ball of Joy, Chaos and Everything You Need!

Groot is a character everyone is completely in love with. From its entry through the Guardians of the Galaxy film series to the sacrificial moment it lent to the Avengers Endgame, Groot has won hearts and become that one character you can rely on to be the silent hero in times of need. Disney+ Hotstar’s I Am Groot is a series of shorts that just affirms the cute, chaotic and calm personality we already know through a chain of fun and silly events with a few surprises tucked in.

Groot’s First Steps

Is this Groot’s origin story? Well, not exactly but, it sure is a story that tells us why this tree-like humanoid can walk! The short opens with Baby Groot in a tech-savvy chamber being taken care of by robots. He might be a project or someone’s possession. But, with a crack in its pot, Groot seems to have lost it all and is determined to get back where he belongs. Only in the short journey Groot takes, he discovers something that changes his life.

The Little Guy

The second short is based on Toddler Groot’s hilarious journey in the wilderness. After discovering a few tricks on what Groot is capable of, it experiences the outer world, probably for the first time. From meeting a miniature civilization to getting a God complex to being a chaotic helping hand, Groot does it all within a span of 3 minutes.

Groot’s Pursuit

The next time we meet Toddle Groot, he is fast asleep in the Quadrant. However, a spooky noise wakes him up to investigate what little creature is wreaking havoc on his nap time. As Groot gets close to discovering what new host is on board at the Quadrant the short takes an intense musical, Salsa-like turn of events.

Groot Takes a Bath

Everyone loves a good bath, right? Well, turns out so does Groot! Back in the wilderness, Groot discovers an almost magical puddle that not only satisfies the urge to take a sweet long bath but, also surprises Groot with some exceptional ‘growth’ that albeit no one saw coming.

Magnum Opus

At last in the Eclector’s Quadrant, Groot puts his mischievous skills to use to paint some chaotic but, heartwarming picture of the Guardians of the Galaxy. But, the process leaves the Quadrant as well as Rocket on fire.

I Am Groot: Final Verdict

Overall, I Am Groot is a complete ball of mischief, madness and merriment. The episodes are so short that you can just breeze through them as you are eating, working or on the way to catch transport. It might be Marvel’s most adorable little show to date that will keep you smiling until the end.

After some heavy flow of characters and storylines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I Am Groot is a pleasant surprise and change. The animation and editing are really well done in that it is capable of telling the story without too much glitz or glamour but, with enough fancy elements to impress you. The titular character has a huge role to play in the span of five episodes giving us a huge range of emotions from being a little nuisance to a helping branch and it delivers being the sassy, kind character it is.

I Am Groot is a must-watch if you really want to take a break from everything around and just laugh out loud.
