Koffee With Karan Season 7 premiered its episode 1 of the season, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt for the explosive opening on Disney+ Hotstar. The synopsis of the episode reads, “The season premieres with our new dulhaniya Alia Bhatt and dynamic Ranveer Singh. The self-proclaimed ‘sakhis’ are here to spill the tea on their partners, proposals and more!”

Karan Johar addresses the audience about coming back to the show after 3 years, after going through the pandemic. He further talked about the rumours that they will be hosting the newlywed couple/s, but that is not happening because that’s not the show’s vibe and the couples said no to the invite.

Alia Bhatt is introduced as the ‘freshly minted dulhaniya’ and Ranveer Singh is called the ‘eternal dulha, at any occasion, any time of the day’. But soon the host’s position seems to be handed over as Ranveer takes over the show with his opening monologue, complementing Karan for looking like a juicy tomato in a red suit.

They briefly talk about how glad they are to come back to the show as they had thought that the show was done away with, since the last season’s nepotism controversy, which has permanently added a snake emoji to Johar’s name on social media. Moving forward, to start the conversation, Johar asks the typical question about their time in quarantine and how they are adapting to their married life.

Here, we get to know that Ranbir Kapoor is actually a very traditional guy and in fact, he once came to the set of Student of the Year and joked if he should marry Alia Bhatt. Talk about fate hm. Following that, the duo tell how they became such good friends during the promotions of Gully Boy and now working in Rocky and Rani ki Prem Kahani.

Apart from the chit-chat, Ranveer Singh showed off his mimicry skills by showing the same exact mannerism of actors like Hritik Roshan to Aamir Khan. Ranveer is like that fun and entertaining friend that makes your boring hangout memorable and full of laughter. Now if you are on the show, there’s no way you won’t be nudged to spill some personal tea about your life.

That’s what happens in the corner called ‘Koffee Bingo’ where they have to check mark things they have done in their lives, like having sex on their wedding night or manifested a co-star’s breakup and other scandalous things. Ranveer’s bingo is obviously full of check marks and further explains the different genres of sex playlists he has.

Coming to Alia’s board, the only interesting thing is that she is just like everyone else and had an embarrassing id called ‘Punkbabe_21’. Well, it’s not that bad but somehow everyone finds it hilarious. Also, there’s a new addition to the show, there’s now a live audience that will vote, on who won the rapid-fire round.

Rapid Fire Round

Usually, the rapid-fire round often ends up in the actor taking a dig at others but here, the best friend duo end up slightly scratching each other’s ego. When asked to compare Alia and Deepika Padukone, Singh answers that Alia has better linguistic skills while Deepika has better physicality. Likewise, when comparing Ranbir and Ranvir, Alia uses the same reasoning for Singh and further says that Ranbir is a better dancer.

Singh starts to sulk at it and Alia replies back that his comparison was not fair as well. Anyway, they soon makeup and the audience vote indicate that Ranveer has won the round with 71% votes while Alia got 29%. The hamper this season looks much bigger and full of expensive things as well, but they are all wrapped up so we don’t know what’s inside exactly.

Slam Zone

The next corner is a competitive game where they have to quickly press buzzers that sound like a car horn, to give answers. For the first round, they play ‘What the Fake’, where they have to guess the fake movie name out of the 3 options. But the movie names are just out of this world and would make you question that such a movie even exists.

The second round is called ‘B for Bollywood’ where they have to give answers to questions like name 3 movies of Jackie Shroff etc. Alia really shined in this round by answering back to back. But it turns out Ranveer Singh couldn’t answer anything about his wife correctly, while another secret is spilt that, Ranbir Kapoor was first offered the film Band Baaja Baaraat.

It would have been really different if Ranbir Kapoor had played the role of Bitoo Sharma. Well, I hate to imagine that as Ranveer was perfect for the role. Then they had to about a topic for 30 seconds and lastly call a famous person and make them say, hi to Karan Johar.

Koffee With Karan Season 7 Episode 1: Final Thoughts

I believe Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh were the perfect guests to start off Koffee With Karan Season 7, after the previous season’s controversies. They made the show fun and lively with their dynamic chemistry and never-ending banter. Ranveer is definitely the star of the episode with his comedic timing and slight digs at KJo by talking about ‘Nepo bias’.

Since there is going to be a live audience on the show now, maybe it would be better if they could be near the stage and interact like the late-night talk shows. But we might have to see if things change, as the celebrities might not be as open to conversation with an audience nearby.
