Rakul Preet Singh was born on 10 October 1990 in New Delhi to Rajender Singh and Kulwinder Singh. Rakul Preet Singh father is a retired Army officer while her mother is a housewife. She also has a brother named Amar. Rakul Preet did her schooling in Army Public School, Dhaula Kaun. She completed her bachelor degree in Mathematics from Jesus and Mary College, University of Delhi.

Rakul Preet started her career as a model during her college days. In 2009, she made her acting debut in Kanada movie Gillli. Rakul Preet Singh took part in Femina Miss India in 2011. She won various beauty contests as a model. In 2012, She made her Tamil debut in a supporting role with film Thadaiyara Thaakka. In 2013, Rakul Preet appeared in romantic comedy film Venkatadri Express opposite Sundeep Kishan. It was her first commercially successful film.
Rakul Preet Singh made her debut in Bollywood with Divya Kumar Khosla film Yaariyan alongside Himansh Kohli and Nicole Faria in 2014. In the same year, she performed in Telegu romantic comedy Loukyam alongside Gopichand and Brahmanandam. In 2015, she acted in Telegu film Bruce Lee-The Fighter opposite Ram Charan and Telegu action comedy Kick 2 opposite Ravi Teja.
In 2016, She appeared in Telegu thriller film Nannaku Prematho opposite Jr. NTR. She also appeared in Telegu action film Sarrainodu opposite Allu Arjun in the same year. It is one of the highest viewed Indian movies on Youtube. In 2018, She acted in Neeraj Pandey Bollywood film Aiyaary opposite Sidharth Malhotra.
