I am an Official NaNoWriMo 2017 winner!

This is a bit of an ego stroke, I am not going to lie there, but If you can’t congratulate yourself on your own site, where can you do it? Today I finished the Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month) challenge and completed the first draft of a novel at just over 50,000 words in 30 days! This is how much I have written for Existential Terror and Breakfast all year, but done in a much shorter time span. I am extremely thankful for the encouragement and support of my readers (as well as my awesome girlfriend) during this time. Without all of you I am not sure I would have attempted this.

Thank you for showing me that I can achieve, and strive for more.

What happens next?

The novel I have written, A Happy Bureaucracy, is a satirical dark comedy adventure set in a nuclear apocalypse where the IRS is the only government institution to survive. It is irreverent and irresponsible, it is everything I love about pulp and satire. I plan on writing two more.

Here’s a synopsis:

When the bombs fell and the weather forecast became permanent nuclear fire, when flowers of destructive fusion blossomed leaving death in their wake, the least important question was immediately asked: who’s going to collect all of the taxes?

The IRS was the only institution to survive the human holocaust, and Arthur McDowell is a steadfast tax auditor craving the safety of the desk job due to him. However, his dreams will be put on hold as the IRS plans a census into new irradiated territory and he is forced to work with freelance Enforcer, Rabia Duke, who’s diet of drugs is hand to mouth. This will be a suicide mission, and neither is keen to see the other survive.

The denizens of the wastes have much to fear. Radiation, roving gangs of psychopaths, and starvation, but the thing they should fear most is bureaucracy…

…a happy bureaucracy.

This last month has taught me that I can write a lot more in a tight schedule than I previously thought. So, as I go on to the second, and third revision, I will be planning the next installments.

What this means for you.

As Existential Terror and Breakfast comes to a close, I will hopefully have new material for you to read, and a lot more of it. It will be different, and you may not want to come on this journey, but if you like my dark humor peppered with the occasional existential crisis, and a lot of offensive cursing (like a bible’s worth) then you will love this new project. I will be exploring other avenues for publication, and will likely not have it here on my website, but it will still be extremely available to you. I will not be making any promises for exactly when this will be, as there is still a lot of work to be done, and a lot more to figure out before it is in your reading hands, but it will be sooner than you think.

If you are as excited for this as I am, and you want to know the very minute that you can read A Happy Bureaucracy, you can subscribe to my weekly Nihilist’s Horoscope, which contains an exclusive dark humor satire and updates (as well as future deals) on my work below:
