Uyghur inmates forced to work on farmland leased to Chinese

Uyghur inmates at Keriye Prison in Xinjiang, China, are reportedly being forced to work long hours in fields and factories, according to sources who spoke to Radio Free Asia. The prisoners are supervised by armed guards and soldiers, and their labor is being used for the benefit of Han Chinese businessmen who lease the prison's farmland. The goal is said to be both to exploit the prisoners' labor and to "reform" them through work. China has been widely criticized for human rights abuses, including forced labor, against the Uyghur people in Xinjiang.
