McGregor was responding to a tweet from the US president on Martin Luther King Jr. Day where Trump trumpeted his administration’s achievements.
“Phenomenal President,” tweeted McGregor, adding that Trump was “quite possibly” the greatest US commander-in-chief, using a goat emoji to make his point.
“Most certainly one of them anyway, as he sits atop the shoulders of many amazing giants that came before him.
“No easy feet [sic]. Early stages of term also. Incredible.
“Congrats and Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day America.”
McGregor’s post has had over 13,000 retweets and has been provoking plenty of comment.
“Quite the endorsement for a country with 33 million Irish citizens.”
McGregor’s positive assessment of Trump’s presidency hasn’t always been shared by other prominent athletes.
After helping the US women’s national team win the Women’s World Cup in France last year, Megan Rapinoe challenged Trump to start showing he cares for every single American, saying his message is Excluding groups of Americans.
