Beautiful Rugs in Royal Palaces

Royal palaces and residences all around the world are always the subject of envy for their beautiful decor, art, and specifically, Rugs and carpets. Royal Palace Rugs and carpets are dignified, majestic, and breathtaking. Rooted in centuries of history and nobility, royal palaces are known for classical and opulent design themes. This includes heavy, luxurious curtains and drapery, gold gilded furniture and wall adornments, stately fine art, and sumptuous, palatial rugs. One can see both medallion and all over designs in these rugs, depending on the rest of the decor in the room.

Here, we’ve put together some of our favorite images of rugs in royal palaces around the world. Each one is beautiful in its own unique way and complements the decor of the room it sits in. There are so many similarities between many of these luscious rugs and rugs in the Nazmiyal collection, so browse through this blog to find a gorgeous rug similar to the royal palace rugs!

Clarence House

The Clarence House is the official London residence of Prince Charles and his wife Camilla. The photograph of the home pictured below is from their celebration of the christening of Prince Louis, third child of Prince William and his wife Kate. The beautiful room of the Clarence house is decorated with a teal color scheme and lavish gold accents. This 18th century Axminster rug, in the Morning Room, is strikingly similar to this Nazmiyal French Aubusson carpet also pictured.

Drottningholm Palace, Sweden

Here, Princess Madeleine and her husband Chris O’Neill celebrate the christening of their daughter, Princess Adrienne. Although the couple is based in London, Drottningholm Palace is the official royal residence. The pastel color scheme, floral themes, and natural light make this room trendy and gorgeous. The subtly colored floral rug is beautiful and incredibly similar to Nazmiyal’s decorative Indian Agra.

Kensington Palace, Apartment 1a

Home to Prince William and Kate Middleton, Apartment 1a is located in Kensington Palace in London. This image depicts an official visit by Barack and Michelle Obama in 2016. The peek into the home shows incredible taste in art as well as a cozy, home-y vibe. The couple has gorgeous paintings on the wall, stately chairs, and a large decorative rug to tie the room together. The rug on the floor is dainty, decorative, and oversized, just like our antique Indian Agra pictured below.

Prince’s Pavilion in Spain

This image comes from a set of family photographs taken of the royal family in 2012. It pictures King Felipe, Princess Letizia, and their daughters. The pavilion is located in the El Pardo complex on the outskirts of Madrid, adjacent to Zarzuela Palace, home of Felipe’s parents King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia. The couple chose to stay in the Pavilion rather than the Zarzuela Palace when Felipe took the throne in 2014. Our vintage Scandinavian kilim pictured below is a beautiful match to the royal family’s decor.

Drottningholm Palace, Sweden

Drottningholm Palace in Sweden is home to Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia, and their son Prince Alexander. Their gorgeous residence contains plenty of ornate, gilded art. Much of Drottningholm Palace’s decor is light pastel colored and floral with luscious royal accents like this stunning chandelier. The beautiful blue and ivory floral rug pictured in their home is reminiscent of one of our large Chinese carpets, pictured below.

Sandringham House

The Sandringham House is the Queen of England’s country retreat a few hours away from Buckingham Palace in London. The Queen and family use the home to host guests and informal visits, as well as celebrate Christmas and New Year’s. This vintage image in black and white makes it hard to tell what the colors of the rug would be or even what type of rug it is, so we’re using our imaginations to match it to our oversized, rust-colored Persian Sultanabad with a pretty allover design.

Buckingham Royal Palace Rugs

Last but not least, we have the iconic Buckingham Palace. The official residence of Queen Elizabeth, the palace hosts a Christmas broadcast every year. These images of Her Majesty from those broadcasts showcase some of the stunning antique rugs around Buckingham Palace. The palace contains many strikingly beautiful rugs, which we have matched up to some similar rugs in the Nazmiyal collection.
