Hey, beautiful creatures! I’ve lately gotten carried away with a bunch of beauty goodies, so much joy at this moment. We’ve been through how important skincare is to indispensably nourish our core gorgeousness. But, couldn’t dismiss fantastic experience with makeup products that make our days more perfect. If you’re one of liquid Lipstick addict, theBalm Cosmetics may be worth your attention.

I’m gonna share my review of theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in seven shades. I got two single lippies of Committed and Adoring, whereas Charming, Romantic, Loving, Captivating and Passionate belong to the volume 3 mini set. Flatteringly, Loving, Captivating and Passionate are three exclusive new shades that you can’t find in the full-size version.

1. About the Product

The lipsticks promise to deliver an extraordinarily long-wearing formula that will stay with you loyally. There are 18 shades available from nude to dark to suffice most of skin tones as well as girls’ different desires. The product gives a lightweight, comfortable matte finish and leaves a relaxing scent of vanilla mint on you.

Formulated with Isododecane, a very well-known texture enhancer and solvent as well. Meant to improve the lipstick’s spreadability, provide weightless feeling on lips, prevent moisture loss, diminish the color transfer and make a silky matte finish. Plus, there is included Propylene Carbonate, it works as a colorless, odorless solvent and viscosity decreasing agent.

Moreover, the product contains Polybutene, C18-36 acid triglyceride, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isononyl Isononanoate and Isopropyl Myristate. The synthetic ingredients function as thickening, lubricating and viscosity regulating factors. They give a smooth, seamless texture like dream, keep the consistency stable and avoid chapped lips. Also, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate is very reactive to pigments so it acts as a surface modifier for pigmentation and coloring of the product.

To defend your lips from being stripped off, the formulation includes Trimethylsiloxysilicate and Tribehenin, a glyceryl triester composed of glycerin and behenic acid. These two bring about softening, conditioning and occlusive activities to focus on minimizing the moisture loss of lips and maintaining a healthy, plump appearance. Additionally, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Stearalkonium Hectorite and Polyhydroxystearic Acid tend to suspend other substances, especially pigments. That helps lipstick not to be caking or sinking at the bottom of the tube.

Regarding to the lipstick’s scents, infused with Ethyl Vanillin, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) oil, Limonene and Linalool. The formulation consists of organic (lakes) and inorganic (mineral) pigments. There are contained Iron oxide and Titanium dioxide, ones of inorganic pigments that deliver opaque coverage, whereas the lakes are prone to be transparent.

2. My Thoughts

The Meet Matte Hughes Liquid lipsticks have a signature scent of vanilla mint, I think it’s sweet but fairly strong and a bit overwhelming to me. In return, the products give a soothing, cooling sensation that is incredible and quite long lasting, I’m really digging this. When swiping onto lips, majority of them deliver a velvety, soft texture with a matte finish. Otherwise, I recognize that these lippies actually don’t have the same formulation as I thought, they have kind of different consistencies and levels to work with. So interesting! Let’s find out.

Adoring

The shade is a sort of medium to dark red, however, if you look closely, there are purplish tints in it. In fact, Adoring is not red all the way. I’d rather call it a deep purplish red. The product provides mousse-y, fairly thick consistency, like gliding on bare skin. Effortlessly blendable and highly pigmented to result in opaque coverage with the first stroke.

Sadly, the lipstick leaves patchy residues and it’s not really buildable, there are noticeable streaks when putting more layers on top for a bolder look. Likewise, it takes 5 minutes or even, more to dry down, otherwise not completely, you still find wet and tacky.

Committed

Gotta say Committed is one of my favorites, so lovable and delicate for young, lively girls. The shade brings a light to medium peachy pink with warm undertones. Compare to Adoring, it’s moderately creamy with a thinner texture but also easier to work with. The product tends to give full coverage and splendid color payoff. It’s very blendable and buildable without uneven marks and dries down pretty fast in one to two minutes. It’s much less sticky than Adoring and prone to be transferred proof.

Charming

Charming is a deep, muted rosy brown. The shade has moussey consistency with a dense texture to deliver opaque coverage with astounding one-swipe pigment. It takes so long to dry down and has clingy stickiness. You need to leave your upper and lower lips separately while it’s drying, if not, it’s more likely to screw up with patchiness.

In addition, I prefer how the lipstick looks vibrant on my pout when it hasn’t dried down yet. After that, the product seems to tone down and be kinda dull. Also, my lips feel dry and heavy, it settles into fine lines and cracks.

Loving

Loving gives a light to medium baby pink, absolutely adorable. I think Loving is the most flattering in the volume 3 mini set. Its consistency is very similar to Committed, this is creamy and lightweight with exquisite pigmentation to leave full coverage. Blended and built well by a slanted sponge or fingertip, the lipstick doesn’t cause uneven patches.
Moreover, it dries down quickly without sticky sensations and doesn’t make kiss transfer or smear around either. The product literally brings stress-free application. I usually apply the lipstick into the center of my lips and then, use my finger to diffuse it out for minimal makeup.

Romantic

Romantic is a bright red with pink undertones. Infused with marvelous color payoff and creamy, thick consistency to result in an exceptionally bold look and opaque coverage. Very blendable and buildable, there aren’t blotchy, uneven residues at all.

You might need to wait for a couple of minutes to let it dry and use a piece of tissue to blot away some excess product. The lipstick won’t leave stains on your cup. One more thing I like about Romantic is it doesn’t make me feel terribly dry, heavy or tacky like Charming. My pout feels comfortable with it. Plus, the color is genuinely tempting.

Captivating

The shade brings about a medium to dark brown. Its consistency is really weightless and slippery onto my lips. The lipstick has good pigmentation and spreadability, I can easily diffuse with my fingertip. However, it’s not evenly buildable, when putting some extra layers on top, it causes subtle patchiness and discoloration. After drying down in some minutes, it tends to be smooch proof, also, I don’t find annoyingly dehydrated or sticky either. Otherwise, the lipstick seems to accentuate fine lines and cracks.

Passionate

Passionate is a light to medium purple. Surprisingly, Passionate is more liquified with a much thinner texture than the rest of shades. And, it’s also hard to fill neatly and perfectly into my lips. This is the most stubborn I got. The lipstick is indeed blended well, but more likely to leave uneven residues and streaks. It takes about one to two minutes to utterly dry down and be kiss proof in the absence of heavy, tacky feelings. Likewise, I’m not lucky with purple lipsticks so this looks odd on me somehow.

There is one thing I totally agree with theBalm Meet Matte Hughes lipsticks, they are very long lasting for seven to eight hours and a half. Eating and drinking will not make the product fade away easily. Except for meals with a lot of oil, that can make the lipstick crumble off gradually from inner parts of my lips.

3. Packaging

Housed in a plastic, transparent tube that you can see the lipstick colors through with an aluminum lid. The tube is weightless and easy to use. The product has a very impressive packaging design, which is nostalgic and vintage. I totally love its small cardboard container with the image of a lovey-dovey couple. That is cute and hilarious.

4. Rating 8/10

I think these lippies are fascinating and worth to try. The products aren’t clumping like many other matte liquid lipsticks I did use before. However, they seem not to really work in the same way when applied onto lips, some are good and some are bad. I’ll give 8 out of 10.
