Implantation Bleeding Color

What is Implantation bleeding color and how long does it last. Only around 20 to 30 percent of women have light spotting or bleeding during implantation. Period blood is red blood while implantation blood is light pink or brown blood.

What is implantation bleeding?

Implantation bleeding is a light bleeding or spots of blood, usually pink or brown in color that happens when a fertilised egg attaches itself to the uterine lining for the purpose of growing and developing.

Implantation occurs after conception, when the fertilised egg reaches the uterus 6-7 days after ovulation. The fertilised egg upon arrival in the uterus will burrow through the uterine lining to make it its new home.

During the process of digging and burrowing through, the uterine lining, some blood is shed. The scanty discharge of blood is known as implantation bleeding or spotting.

Implantation bleeding is one of the very early first signs of pregnancy.

Only a few women notice implantation blood as a sign of pregnancy.

What Color is Implantation Bleeding

Implantation bleeding or implantation discharge is most times pinkish or dark brown in color. Unlike Period blood that is bright red and contains blood clots. Implantation blood contains no blood clots.

It is also usually accompanied with mild cramping known as implantation pain or implantation cramps.

Implantation Bleeding Symptoms & Signs

The common signs of bleeding or spotting during implantation are:

  • Pinkish discharge or brown spotting
  • Mild or light lower abdominal cramps
  • Moodswings
  • Headaches
  • Last for a few hours or 1 -2 days

How to recognise implantation Bleeding

Because implantation bleeding occurs around the same time as your expected period, some women do think it is their menstruation about to start.

Here is how to be sure it is implantation spotting:

Color

Spotting during implantation is pinkish or dark brown in color. When it is pinkish it means the implantation just happened hence the fresh pink blood.

Dark brown blood means the blood from the implantation is a bit old before passing through the cervix to the vagina.

Duration

The quantity of implantation blood is very light and it only lasts for a few hours or 1 -2 days.

Unlike your menstrual period that lasts for 3-7 days and gets heavier on day 2-3.

Flow/Quantity

Spotting in early pregnancy during implantation is a very scanty pinkish or brownish discharge that most women only notice on tissue paper or in their under wears.

The flow is very light and not as heavy as your normal period.

Timing

Bleeding in early pregnancy usually occurs around 6-12 days after conception. It takes the fertilised egg 6-7 days to get to the uterus after fertilisation.

For some women early implantation can start immediately the egg arrive in the uterus 7 days after conception, while for other women it can start as late as 12 days after conception. This is known as late implantation.

Implantation spotting usually occurs some days before your expected period.

So if you had unprotected sex around ovulation and you are spotting before period, you may be pregnant.
