Lunasol Winter 2018

I may be a little behind the times, but it feels like I’ve only just gotten hold of the Lunasol Winter 2018 collection a few weeks ago.  The first weeks of this year have been incredibly busy and with Ezra starting Primary School, I’m always out of the house before the sun rises, and dead asleep by 9pm.  Initially I thought I’d have to do my makeup at work, but surprisingly the Lunasol Winter 2018 pieces are so easy to use that I’ve been living on it!  Come take a look.

In comparison to the Autumn collection [see here], this Winter 2018 collection is much more streamlined.  There 3 new eyeshadow duos that are all limited edition.  The Lunasol Deep Veil Eyes pair a darker base shade with a complementary lighter and sheerer shimmer shade.

Below are the swatches.  The lighter Shades are generally (2 out of 3 cases) too light and sheer to be used on their own, and I prefer wearing the shades layered together.  So I’ve also included a combined swatch placed horizontally so you get an idea of how they look when layered together.

  • EX01 – pale lavender with a touch of silver frost, and a deep purple taupe with a satin finish.  The latter is light on pigmentation and is impossible to overdo, which is great for hurried mornings.
  • EX02 – medium rose with a mixture of pink and champagne microshimmers.  This is paired with a deep brown that also contains some purple microshimmers.  The two shades combine to give an eggplant hue with a shimmery finish.
  • EX03 – light beige with a semi-translucent base and multi-colored microshimmers; this shade does not stand up well on its own but adds subtle complexity when layered with its partner.  This is paired with a medium reddened plum with some purple microshimmers.

To bring out the plummy hues, Lunasol has released a Feathery Lash Mascara in EX03.  This is a limited edition shade in a purple-brown that is very subtle on my dark lashes.  The brush is easy to use, grabs all my lashes and lifts them up without clumping.  This is a great one for natural-looking lashes but if you need more definition, you may need to pair it with another mascara or pile it on.  The great thing is that it doesn’t smudge even on my oily hooded lids, which is a rare find for me.

A brand new novelty this season, the Lunasol Coloring Crayon is a multi-use product for cheeks, lips and eyes.  The jumbo crayon packaging is easy and intuitive to use, and features a easy twist-up mechanism that also retracts back down for safekeeping.  There are two limited edition shades:

  • EX01 is a medium-light cool-toned lilac; and
  • EX02 is a medium-dark rose.

Both shades come in a satin finish, and the formula itself is creamy and easy to blend.  The pigmentation is ideal for use on the cheeks, not too much that it looks flat, not so sheer that it takes too much work to create the needed flush.

Last but not least, Lunasol introduces the new Creamy Matte Liquid Lips.  These come in rectangular tubes that are small enough to fit in your party clutch, and the clear glass body allows you to easily tell the shades at a glance.  The top pulls out to reveal a doe-footed sponge applicator that spreads the liquid lipstick out, and makes it easy to get a precise outline.  Though some of the shades look quite intense, the formula blends out well to create a sheer stain or bold lip as desired.

There are several new and permanent shades, as well as a few limited edition hues as denoted by the “EX”.  The shades that I have are:

  • 02 Chai Tea – a light milky beige with a slight reddish tinge
  • 03 Cranberry Red – medium-dark brightened red with a strong cool blue undertone
  • 04 Deep Garnet – dark plummy red with a slight chocolatey tinge
  • 05 Berry – medium strawberry milkshake pink with a warm creamy undertone
  • EX06 Rum Brown – medium-dark brown with a reddish undertone
  • EX08 Viola Mauve – medium barbie doll pink with a strong blue undertone

In case you didn’t have enough pretties to tide you over the season, Lunasol has a special 5-piece party coffret 2018.  There is a 4-colour Party Eyes palette in the shade EX01 Rosy Brown which comprises shades that everybody would love.  There are 2 lip options included – Creamy Matte Liquid Lips in EX05 Dusty Pink, and Deep Lip Glow in EX02 Deep Berry.  There is also a Creamy Highlight in EX01 Frozen Pink.  The makeup are housed in a mauve velvet pouch with a faux fur handle.

I’m not sure if these are still available at counters, but if you can, I definitely recommend checking out the seasonal exclusive pieces, especially the party coffret and Deep Veil Eyes.  The Creamy Matte Liquid Lips are some of the most comfortable liquid lipsticks I’ve ever tried, and I love that I can sheer them out and wear as a stain.  So don’t miss out on them too!
