I have not acquired any new Dior makeup in a long time, preferring to invest in their fashion accessories instead. But I couldn’t resist the latest Dior en Diable collection for Fall 2018, especially the 5 Couleurs Rouge en Diable eyeshadow palettes. There are 2, I resisted the urge to pick up both of them, and chose the more sophisticated Volcanic.
Right away you can probably already tell what set the Dior 5 Couleurs Rouge en Diable palette apart. The powders are embossed with a fine leather texture, complete with evenly-spaced threading, a perfect replication of their fine leather goods. This is one that makes me ache to touch with my fingers, to experience the tantalizing softness, although I am deeply torn to ruin the beautiful design. I did swatch it (super gently though!) to give you an idea of the shades.
From left to right, the shades are:
- Top right of palette – silver shimmer with a translucent base
- Bottom right of palette – deep brown with a satin finish, interspersed with violet and silver micro-shimmers
- Bottom left – medium grey with a satin finish and bright silver and violet micro-shimmers
- Top left – brightened bronze with a metallic finish and a strong violet sheen
- Middle of palette – brightened orange with a strong golden shen
Perhaps because it has been such a long time since I played with Dior eyeshadows, I thought the pigmentation and quality of Volcanic was pretty good, although you can’t really tell from the gentle swatches above. However, when applied with a brush on the lids, Volcanic produces a really beautiful sleek eye look.
In this look above, I started with the Brightened Bronze all over my lid, followed by deep brown on the outer third. I pressed the orange shade into the middle of my lid, and dabbed some silver shimmer to the inner corner. Finally, I lined the lower lash line with grey before adding mascara.
Here is the complete makeup look:
And another one…
What are you loving this Fall 2018? It seems like the Holiday collections are already starting to sneak… time to start saving up!
