I Thought I Was Over Leggings…But Then, These Velvet Ones Happened

I mean…I do wear Leggings. Almost every day. But I wear them to work out, it’s very much a working-out situation, and then I just get stuck. Stuck in sports bras and leggings, all day long. It’s depressing, but the alternative is showering and putting on real clothes, and that’s HARD, you guys.

[cue office-working moms everywhere rolling their eyes — it’s OK, I deserve it!]

So I never — like, literally NEVER — Turn to leggings for an actual outfit. They are the last thing I ever want to wear on those Extra-Special Days I Put On Real Clothes. If you remember the video Scotti and I did last winter, How To Style Faux Leggings For Holiday Parties, I really had to dig down deep. So imagine my surprise when these Beyond Yoga Velvet Leggings — originally bought to jazz up the very workout gear I get stuck in — ended up being the star of my Michigan travel wardrobe over the holidays.

Velvet Leggings, Worn

These things are cozy, soft, and thick enough so my legs don’t totally freeze on a chilly day in Michigan. Beyond Yoga leggings also have an insanely high rise (not overly tight, but enough to stay up) — making them some of the most comfortable leggings around.

I wore mine with a cozy turtleneck on New Year’s Day….

And I wore them again with…the same turtleneck sweater…a few days lat —OK FINE. Basically every day, alright? I wore this exact outfit almost every day.

Pax is wearing my jacket because on our hike to the ice caves (pics coming soon), he managed to find the ONE part of the creek not frozen, throw himself in, and soak through all of his snow pants, jacket, and boots that we *thought* were waterproof. So now he’s wearing my jacket, my mom’s boots, and his pajama pants that — luckily and confusingly? — in the backseat of the car. (Thank goodness for that neck warmer?  How the heck did he keep that thing dry?)

Which reminds me of my next point: because these leggings are so soft and cozy and warmer than most leggings…I’ve been wearing them — in a pinch — as a baselayer under my ski pants. Not for skiing, but if we’re just doing some sort of cold wintertime activity (like hiking), and I know I’ll want to ditch the snow pants once finished and still look dressed…velvet leggings.

For example, I have them on under my snowpants here….

…and they still work for most of my dance classes. But because they ARE warmer, I won’t be wearing them to spin class anytime soon. Yoga and dance and general working out, however?

Like my form, they’re perfect. (Based on years of training. Don’t be jealous.)
