MY RURAL ESCAPE

MY Rural ESCAPE

Hi everyone!

If you are following me on Instagram you might be aware from my Instastories that I went away to Norfolk for the early May Bank Holiday weekend. I live in London and I am not ready to give up my busy city life in favour of the rural bliss just yet, however I need my regular dose of the countryside. A long weekend is a perfect opportunity for a rural escape.

I don’t like staying in hotels as I find them so uninteresting, unless they have a reputation of being haunted like The Queen Anne Hotel in San Francisco where I stayed during my US road trip! The accommodation forms an important part of my trips, it’s not just a place to sleep. I therefore always try to find some quirky and unusual places to stay. This is why I am a big fan of Glamping. For those of you who are not familiar with this term, glamping means glamour camping and it’s basically a camping type of experience with luxury private facilities. This means you have your own private bathroom, kitchen, electricity, TV etc. You don’t have to bring anything with you and you just show up just like you would to a hotel. Glamping can sometimes be more expensive than staying in a hotel, but paying a little extra is worth it if you are bored with hotels and seek something unusual and quirky.

There are many different types of glamping accommodation, e.g. Shepherd’s Hut, Glamping Pod, Narrow Boat, Showman’s Carriage, Bell Tent, Tree House and many more. This time I stayed in a wooden Glamping Pod called Freddie at the lovely Waveney Meadow in Toft Monks which also had two Shepperd’s Huts onsite. The place was surrounded by a stunning rural landscape. The pod had a kitchenette, dining table and sleeping area. There was a TV by the bed. Some of the wooden pods I stayed at before had an en suite but this one had a private bathroom outside. The pod was very cosy and I had the best sleep ever!

As the weather was wonderful, we decided to rent a Canadian Canoe from the Waveney River Centre and spent the day cruising around the Norfolk Broads. It was a very relaxing day of admiring the spectacular rural views. Although I did not go for a swim in the river I did get to dip my feet in the water. It’s mandatory whenever I am by the water on a hot day! I saw so many amazing boats and I loved some of their names, e.g. ‘Cover Girl’.

After the whole day of canoeing, it was time for some serious food. We went to a local pub called The White Lion and I really recommend a visit there if you are in the area. The food was amazing!

What do you think about my rural escape? Have you ever done any form of glamping? Let me know in the comments below.
