Virtual Reality Browsing, Web Design and SEO – A New Way to Browse

With Google hard at work on their Virtual Reality platform, smooth, straight-forward VR is well within our grasp within 2017. We’ve all seen the amazing videos of people gaming through virtual reality headsets over the last two years. With the craze Kickstarted by the Oculus Rift a few years ago, and many of the big players, Google, Sony and Samsung, releasing their own virtual reality headsets, the dream of the late 80s, of entering the virtual world, is very quickly becoming very viable.
As the prices start to tumble on VR headsets over the next couple years, and they become affordably commonplace, they will at least partially replace monitors. Anything you can do on a screen, watch a film, play games or browse, will be available in VR, and due to the portable, smaller nature of the VR headset, it could prove very functional for many people.

How Will it Affect Web Designers?

Flat, basic websites don’t look great on a monitor. Imagine how painfully unstimulating they would be through VR sets. The websites that will meet the new VR system best will be those that feature multiple styles of content, maybe 3D videos, and feature a visually stimulating, but highly functional, and never overwhelming style. It’s a case of making a website at the very least easy to explore, and at the best enjoyable and interesting to look around. Web designers might have to get a little experimental! New styles and techniques could take many, many forms with the potential inherent in VR, so we’re set to see some fantastic sites released over the next couple of years.

What about SEO and Browsing?

We’re sure Google will never be far behind, they’ll be very quick to incorporate new VR tricks to make browsing as smooth, quick and easy as possible, along with voice recognition, eye movement tracking, and virtual reality, we could be set for the most intuitive and futuristic browsing imaginable.
The fact is, there’s no predicting exactly how the various search engines are going to execute their search functions via virtual reality, however, as the viewing systems change you can expect more and more features like rich snippets and smaller chunks of information displayed on the SERPs. You’ve got to remember, with virtual reality, you’ve got a screen that’s bigger than IMAX to play with. The potential with websites, browsing and everything online is huge. Keeping abreast as a web design company, or an SEO agency is crucial.
