The OG Weekender 10.27.17

Happy Halloween weekend! We’re kicking off the Weekend right with a rundown of local Dayton events and our favorite findings from the marketing and advertising world. Here’s what’s happening this weekend:

‘Fall’ in love with Dayton restaurants

Is there a local Dayton restaurant that you’ve always wanted to try? Well, now it your chance, with the Miami Valley Restaurant Assocation’s “7 Days of Fall Flavors” event. All week long, you can enjoy 3-course fall-themed meals from some of Dayton’s favorite restaurants for a fixed price. Check out the menus here.

Experience the Roaring Twenties at Dayton Ballet’s The Great Gatsby

This weekend only you can catch Dayton Ballet’s performances of The Great Gatsby, set to live music performed by a seven-piece jazz ensemble and Blues singer and Dayton local Felita LaRock. Catch one of the performances through Sunday at the Victoria Theatre.

Trick or Treat at the Ohio Renaissance Festival

It’s the final weekend of the 2017 Ohio Renaissance Festival and this Saturday and Sunday you can enjoy fun Halloween events for the whole family, including costume contests for adults and children, trick or treating around the village, and pumpkin decorating for the kids.

Marketing news:

Facebook is borrowing from Pinterest with new ‘Sets’

Facebook is in the initial phases of testing for a new feature called Sets. The new feature takes a cue from Pinterest, enabling users to compile their favorite status updates, photos, videos, and articles into a collection that can be shared with their friends. Users in the initial test group can create a Set and select privacy settings to choose which friends can see their collections.

Unique marketing partnerships: See Netflix’s best marketing for Stranger Things

Stranger Things is easily Netflix’s most marketable show. It’s a fan favorite, mostly for its clever 80s nostalgia factor. At least seven prominent brands have partnered with Netflix, including Reebok, Eggo Waffles, Topshop, Lyft, and Spotify. Check out this full rundown of partnerships to see how these brands used elements of the popular show to creatively market their products.

Have a great weekend!
