The OG Weekender: 10.6.17

Are you ready for another perfect fall weekend in Dayton? We’ve got you covered with the latest local events and trending topics in marketing and advertising. It’s all in this edition of the OG Weekender:

Tour the new Health Sciences Center at Sinclair College – open to the public

This Saturday, October 7, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, head to Sinclair College in Dayton for an open house of the brand new Health Sciences Center. This free event is open to the public and will feature a tour, program information, and faculty meet and greet, as well as wellness screenings, children’s activities, and refreshments. The center will open for classes this fall, and you can learn more here.

There’s still time to see In the Heights!

With music and lyrics by Lin Manuel-Miranda, this four-time Tony Award®-winning musical is about family, tradition, and community. (It does contain adult language, so it may be best to keep the kids at home.) The performance was produced by Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in Saint Paul, Minnesota in collaboration with Teatro del Pueblo. You can check it out at the Schuster Center all weekend long.

New in social media: you can soon cross-post Instagram stories to Facebook

While Facebook Stories haven’t had quite the same success as Instagram Stories, users now have the option to merge their Instagram Stories posts to their Facebook feed as well. Approximately 250 million people post to Instagram Stories each day, and merging their posts to Facebook may increase the exposure. The feature isn’t available to brands yet, but we suspect Facebook will soon allow Facebook Pages to post their own Stories.

Is working with pen and paper better for our creativity?

According to an Indiana University study, writing with a pen and paper stimulates the brain in three areas that typing doesn’t. The brain scans revealed that writing by hand increases neural activity in the same areas stimulated by meditation. If you want to hone in on your creative process, this is a compelling reason to put down the laptop or tablet and pick up some good old-fashioned paper for your next meeting.

Have a great weekend!
