KLARA ZAKOPALOVA CLAIMS BRAZIL CUP

Klara Zakopalova fought back from the brink of defeat to beat Garbine Muguruza and claim the WTA Brazil Cup title.

The third seeded Czech had lost her last six final appearance on the WTA but finally ended that losing streak with a hard-fought 4-6 7-5 6-0 success.

It looked set to be seven defeats in a row for Zakopalova as she slipped a set and 2-5 behind to second-seeded Spaniard Muguruza.

However, she fought back bravely to claim that second set, and that broke Muguruza's spirit as Zakopalova ran away with the third set to win the $250,000 event.

It was a slice of revenge for Zakopalova after she was beaten by Muruguza in the Hobart final in January, while she also lost out to Kurumi Nara in last week's Rio final.

However, she managed to stick in there in the southern Brazilian city of Florianopolis to claim her third WTA Tour title.

"I was losing the whole match, but anything can happen in a final," said the 32-year-old. "Winning this title is just incredible."
